Job description

Mainframe Command Center Operator

Job Location: New York, NY 10004

Job Duration: 12+ Months

Night Shift

Pay Rate: $52/hr on W2 all inclusive

End Client: Brokerage

Office Time: 07:00 PM - 07:00 AM

Batch Processing:

  • Monitor all batch flow processing and insure timely completion of endpoints/milestones.
  • Identify delays or bottlenecks using proprietary and vendor tools and resolve or escalate accordingly.
  • Perform level 1 and level 2 support and resolution for all batch abends
  • Track incoming and outgoing transmissions ensuring they meet deadlines, escalating to appropriate vendors and Datacenter management when necessary.
  • Infrastructure Monitoring:
    • Monitor real time performance of the computing environment utilizing automated solutions, 3rd party monitoring software and in-house proprietary tools (OPSMVS/SSM, Omegamon, Sysview, Netview)
    • Perform scheduled and unscheduled system shutdown and startup (IPL) utilizing the Hardware Management Console (HMC); perform environmental verifications after IPL is complete.
    • Perform and verify system configuration changes as specified during weekend maintenance / shutdown periods.
    • Respond to all hardware faults or failures requiring escalation and support from outside vendors.
    • Work with vendors toward resolving these incidents. Report them via problem tracking software.
    • Respond to all console messages and alerts requiring intervention and action.
    • Track and document all outages and incidents which adversely impact the environment.
    • Host triage calls with engineering staff, to escalate and resolve incidents and problems

Qualifications:

Candidate must have 3-5 years experience in Mainframe batch environment; knowledge of support operations, best practices and processes. Must have expert level knowledge of Tivoli Workload Scheduler, including comprehensive understanding of scheduling concepts. Candidate must have working knowledge of mainframe z/OS console commands, JES, Hardware Management Console functions and TSO. Working experience with at least two of these monitoring tools: (OPSMVS/SSM, Omegamon, Sysview, Netview).

Other Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, attention to detail, ability to interpret and precisely act on written instructions.
  • Experience with MS Office business applications (such as: Excel, Word, Power Point).
  • Capable of working independently with limited oversight. Good project planning, organization, and time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to multi-task. Must be a team player and foster a team first environment and culture.
