What are Mail Inserts?

Mail inserts are printed materials, such as flyers, brochures, coupons, or promotional offers, that are placed inside envelopes or packages along with the main mailing item. Job description

Job Summary:

The License Plate Technician is a hands-on technical role responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of all hardware used in license plate and vehicle registration production, inspection, and fulfillment operations. This includes license plate and registration printers, blanking lines, mail insert equipment, and related production machinery across multiple state facilities.

In this role, you will serve as the primary technical resource for production hardware, diagnosing and resolving mechanical, electrical, and network-related issues to minimize downtime and keep fulfillment operations running. You will also serve as a second-level escalation point for the Customer Care Department, providing direct customer-facing technical support when issues exceed standard support capacity.

Success in this role requires strong mechanical aptitude, hands-on troubleshooting experience, and the ability to work independently in varied environments โ€” including manufacturing facilities and correctional institutions. While there is meaningful desk time for documentation, reporting, and remote support during periods when equipment is not requiring service, technicians should expect regular hands-on work with production equipment and periodic travel to customer sites with minimal notice.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Install, test, diagnose, repair, and maintain license plate and registration printers, blanking lines, mail insert equipment, and related production machinery across multiple state facilities
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware-, software-, and network-related problems encountered directly by customers or escalated by the Customer Care Department
  • Serve as the Second Level Escalation point for Customer Care, providing direct customer-facing technical support when issues exceed standard support capacity
  • Minimize equipment downtime by proactively identifying potential failures and performing preventive maintenance
  • Identify and implement cost-saving improvements to existing manufacturing and fulfillment techniques
  • Assist Support teams and Business Analysts with new and existing projects
  • Collaborate with the central fulfillment center as needed
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation for maintenance procedures, installations, and troubleshooting steps
  • Work as an effective member of a cross-functional support and project team
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school equivalency required; college education preferred
  • Hands-on mechanical or electromechanical experience required; experience with industrial printing equipment, production machinery, or field service repair strongly preferred
  • Experience reading and interpreting technical manuals, schematics, or wiring diagrams
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts (IP addressing, VPN, connectivity troubleshooting) preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • General to advanced mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and repair unfamiliar equipment
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate and work through technical obstacles independently
  • Ability to create clear, accurate technical documentation including error reports, maintenance logs, and after-action summaries
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain technical issues clearly to non-technical customers and staff
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and in varying environments
  • Self-motivated and organized, with the ability to manage multiple work items with minimal supervision
  • Must be able to pass a security background check and drug screen
  • Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends with minimal notice
  • Must be willing to travel for extended periods of time with minimal notice
  • Must be comfortable working inside correctional facilities and interacting with inmates
