The ChristianaCare Mail Order Pharmacy Department is seeking a full-time Pharmacy Assistant to join our team. This position is scheduled for day shift hours, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with no weekend or holiday requirements.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
Pharmacy Outpatient Operations
Assist the pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in providing timely, efficient, cost effective, and appropriate pharmaceutical care to the patient community.
Maintains a clean and orderly work area, with the responsibility of removing all trash within the pharmacy to the appropriate indoor and outdoor receptacles.
Breakdown a pallet of shipping supplies for medications and put away safely and securely in the dedicated shipping supply storage room area as well as restock the pharmacy shipping stations with the necessary packaging supplies for dry and cold-chain deliveries.
Completes assignments in the shipping workflow under the direct supervision of pharmacist or pharmacy technician supervisor and in accordance with applicable standard operating procedures for medication deliveries.
Make courier afternoon deadlines for daily pick-up so that medications are delivered to patients accurately and on time.
Make or answer telephone calls within ChristianaCare standards for telephone etiquette and greet patients and fellow Caregivers coming into the pharmacy in a courteous and friendly manner.
Securely collecting credit payment information from customers for their prescription co-pays, as well as protecting private cardholder information in accordance with hospital requirements.
Enter the required patient payment information for prescriptions in the pharmacy point of sale systems. Able to make credit card adjustments for refunds or overcharges when appropriate.
Responsible for ensuring a favorable patient experience for customers related to their payment information and accurate shipping address on file for their medications.
Provides exceptional customer service to all internal and external customers.
Accountable for maintaining low error rates at the point of sale & shipping software workstations to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of medications to our customers.


Other Pharmacy Duties and Responsibilities
Complete mandatory education and assigned competencies.
Maintain a current knowledge of all departmental policies and procedures.
Recommend ideas to supervisor for improvement of methods and procedures to promote efficiency and effectiveness.
Perform assigned work safely adhering to established departmental rules and practices. Report to supervisor in a timely manner any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other caregivers, patients, or visitors.
Perform other duties as required or assigned for emergency or other operational reasons for which the employee is qualified to perform to maintain appropriate level of pharmacy service.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent

  • Some experience in receiving and putting away boxes.

  • Some experience in preparing items to be shipped.

  • Some experience in using a computer.

  • Some experience in customer service answering / making phone calls.

  • Some experience in operating a point-of-sale system & collecting electronic payments.

This position has a starting rate of $17.32 per hour, regardless of prior experience. After six months of continuous employment, the hourly rate will automatically increase to $20.34 per hour. After one year of continuous employment, the hourly rate will automatically increase to $21.34 per hour.This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare's good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
