Purpose:The purpose of this position is to lead the daily activities of the mobile unit and provide the normal maintenance activities required for a NEP mobile unit to meet client requirements and operate up to NEP standards.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:Oversee technical and engineering operations for assigned mobile broadcast units at remote production sites, ensuring show readiness and successful execution.
Serve as the primary on-site technical authority and client point of contact, communicating technical risks, changes, and solutions clearly and professionally.
Lead show builds and live production execution, including system configuration, testing, troubleshooting, live operations support, and teardown.
Quickly diagnose and resolve technical issues during setup, live broadcast, and breakdown with minimal impact to production.
Direct and support engineering crews by assigning roles and tasks, providing real-time leadership, and maintaining safe and efficient operations.
Schedule and deploy personnel to meet operational needs and ensure appropriate coverage.
Evaluate crew performance, provide coaching and technical mentorship, and participate in performance management processes.
Communicate show status, crew needs, and operational changes to management; represent management expectations on site.
Oversee the setup, operation, and teardown of mobile units and broadcast systems in accordance with engineering standards and best practices.
Collaborate with engineering leadership, operations teams, coordinators, and clients to meet technical and production requirements.
Coordinate equipment, staffing, and logistics with Mobile Unit Coordinators, Field Shop, and maintenance teams.
Support mobile unit builds, upgrades, repairs, and system improvements in partnership with engineering leadership.
Ensure effective maintenance and asset management, including preventative maintenance, inventory tracking, and repair workflows.
Complete post-event technical reports and required documentation accurately and on time.
Perform additional engineering or operational duties as assigned.
Minimum 4-5+ years of progressive experience in remote broadcast engineering or a related technical field
Technical degree preferred (Electronics, Engineering, or related field), or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Proven Engineer in Charge-level leadership, with the ability to supervise technical teams, coordinate projects, and execute complex live productions in high-pressure/live production environments.
Advanced knowledge of broadcast engineering and mobile television production, supporting major commercial and cable network productions.
Strong hands-on proficiency across core broadcast systems, including video, audio, graphics, cameras, routing, intercoms, and IP-based workflows.
Solid IT and networking skills, including IP configuration and troubleshooting
Deep foundational knowledge Layer 2/3 networking (TCP/IP, multicast, VLANs, QoS, bandwidth management) and mission-critical broadcast troubleshooting.
Advanced system-level troubleshooting ability across router control systems, video switchers, audio consoles, EVS networks, intercoms, and other networked broadcast equipment.
High-level experience with broadcast control and infrastructure systems, including Magnum, VSM, Cerebrum, or TFC.
In-depth knowledge of all EVS gear (XT-VIA, VIA Remotes, IPDirector, XFile, and XTA)
Strong audio console proficiency, particularly with Calrec platforms (Apollo, Artemis, Argo Q, Summa, and Brio).
Proficiency with production switchers, including Grass Valley switchers.
Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and make sound decisions in fast-paced live environments.
Willingness and ability to travel extensively (approx. 240 days per year) to live events as scheduled; valid U.S. passport required.
Demonstrated client-facing excellence, delivering top-level technical support and customer service to internal and external clients and partners while embodying NEP’s core values.
