Job description

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
The Machine Operator takes care of all machine-specific functions such as configuring the equipment, loading and operating the machines, and optimizing the machine capability; ensure that the machine works at its full capacity, oversee its maintenance, and perform timely quality checks.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Operate various production machines within the facility in accordance with prints and specifications. Assigned machines may include lathes, grinders, mills, brake presses, punch presses, band saws, banders, slitters, lasers, and similar equipment.
  • Produce the required quantity of parts within established specifications and tolerances.
  • Measure finished parts with precision tools, ensuring compliance with function, quality, and cosmetic specifications.
  • Maintains logs and records of units produced including a record of errors resulting in rejected or discarded pieces.
  • Inspect equipment prior to use to ensure proper setup and alignment; performs basic and routine adjustments and troubleshooting.
  • Calibrate, adjust and correct machine set-ups to ensure products are produced to the correct specifications, thicknesses, and size.
  • Control and adjust machine settings, and feed raw materials or parts to semi-automated and automated machines.
  • Monitor machine cycles to detect jamming and to ensure that products conform to specifications.
  • Examine, inspect, and measure raw materials and finished products to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Measure finished parts with precision tools, ensuring compliance with function, quality, and cosmetic specifications.
  • Read orders, blueprints, and schedules to determine setup specifications, work sequences, product dimensions, and installation procedures.
  • Manipulate controls and observe dial indicators in order to monitor, adjust, and regulate speeds of machine mechanisms.
  • Set distance points between rolls, parts, guides, meters, and stops, according to specifications.
  • Position, align, and secure arbors, spindles, coils, mandrels, dies, and other equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work area.
  • Compliance with departmental SOP's and ISO procedures.
  • Adherence to Safety Standards and policies.
  • SMP (Self-Managed Performance) Participation and Engagement.
  • Adherence to all Policies and Procedures.
  • Measured Performance to Business Objectives.
  • Required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent recommended.
  • The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.
  • Ability to interpret and translate engineering designs and documentation.
  • Thorough understanding of or the ability to quickly learn production equipment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to see details at close range and at a distance.
  • The ability to time your movements or the movement of a piece of equipment in anticipation of changes in the speed and/or direction of a moving object or scene.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to work on more than one task at a time.
