How much do machine welder jobs pay per hour?

As of Jul 2, 2026, the average hourly pay for machine welder in the United States is $21.21, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $19.23 and $23.08 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

Can you make $100,000 as a welder?

Machine welders can earn $100,000 or more annually with extensive experience, specialized skills, and working in high-demand industries such as oil and gas or aerospace. Achieving this income often requires certifications, advanced techniques, and working overtime or in remote locations. Entry-level welders typically earn less, but salaries increase with skill level and job complexity.

What are some common challenges faced by machine welders on the job, and how can they be addressed?

Machine welders often encounter challenges such as maintaining precise weld quality while working with various materials and thicknesses, as well as troubleshooting equipment malfunctions. Adapting to different welding specifications and ensuring safety in a fast-paced environment are also typical hurdles. These challenges can be addressed by regularly calibrating and maintaining welding machines, following strict safety protocols, and participating in ongoing training to stay updated with the latest welding technologies and techniques. Strong communication with team members and supervisors helps ensure smooth workflow and quick resolution of any issues.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Machine Welder, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Machine Welder, you need a solid understanding of welding techniques, blueprint reading, and safety standards, often backed by vocational training or welding certification. Familiarity with welding machines (such as MIG, TIG, or arc welders), CNC equipment, and quality inspection tools is typically required. Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and effective teamwork help set top performers apart. These skills ensure precise, safe, and efficient production of high-quality welded components in manufacturing environments.

What is the highest paid type of welder?

The highest paid type of welder is typically an underwater or commercial diver welder, who specializes in underwater welding and requires specialized skills and certifications. These welders often work in challenging environments and can earn significantly higher wages than standard welders, especially with experience and advanced certifications.

Can you make $300,000 as a welder?

Machine welders can potentially earn $300,000 annually, but this level of income typically requires extensive experience, specialized skills, working in high-paying industries such as oil and gas or aerospace, and often involves overtime or supervisory roles. Most welders' salaries are below this figure, with top earners in certain sectors reaching higher income levels.

What are Machine Welders?

Machine Welders are skilled workers who operate welding machines to join metal parts together in manufacturing, construction, or repair settings. Unlike manual welders who perform welds by hand, machine welders set up, monitor, and adjust automated or semi-automated welding equipment. They are responsible for ensuring that welding processes meet quality and safety standards, and often perform routine maintenance on the machines. Machine welders may work with various welding techniques, such as MIG, TIG, or resistance welding, depending on the job requirements.

What welding jobs pay $50 an hour?

Experienced pipe welders, underwater welders, and certified structural welders often earn $50 or more per hour, especially with specialized skills, certifications, and in high-demand industries. Factors such as location, project complexity, and union membership can also influence pay rates for welding jobs.

What is the difference between Machine Welder vs Manual Welder?
