Job description

Role Summary
URBN is seeking a Software Engineer who will be an integral part of each phase of the software development lifecycle including design, development, deployment and maintenance. The primary focus will be on enhancing our Ecommerce
platforms supporting the online shopping experience for our brands including Anthropologie.com,
UrbanOutfitters.com, FreePeople.com, and ShopTerrain.com, developing customer facing
applications, and the ability to work with or in existing store brands.
Role Responsibilities
  • Design and development of microservices and event driven systems
  • Develop new product features and advance the design of existing code for the Ecommerce applications
  • Help determine the requirements, then plan, design, and develop complex and business critical software
    solutions
  • Develop functional designs while interacting with enterprise architects, developers, business partners as
    well as end users
  • Leverage AI coding agents across planning, implementation, and review, and take accountability for the correctness and quality of the resulting code
  • React to possible production issues
  • Enjoys working in a collaborative team setting

Role Qualifications
Qualifications
  • Understanding of OO principles and design patterns
  • At least 3-5 years of software development experience
  • Experience with related browser technologies including JSON, REST, HTML, AJAX, CSS
  • Self-starter, ready to learn new concepts and technologies. Willing to take on responsibility for new
    features and develop them from inception to completion
  • Proficient in Python/Golang
  • Strong understanding of RESTful services design
  • Strong understanding of asynchronous message processing technologies
  • Strong data modeling skills
  • Hands-on experience with an AI coding agent in a professional codebase (Claude Code, Cursor, or similar)
  • Strong communications skills - able to discuss complex technical problems with developers, QA and
    BSAs
  • Enjoys working across teams and sharing knowledge with other engineers

Job Skills
  • Familiarity with search solutions like Elastic Search, Solr
  • Demonstrated expertise with Unit Testing frameworks and mocking libraries
  • Familiar with Django or other ORM frameworks
  • Experience with Tornado/Flask or other web server technologies
  • Experience with Vue.js or React or similar web frameworks
  • Experience with any NoSQL DB
  • Experience with RDBMS preferably postgres/cloud sql
  • Experience authoring agent files and reusable skills, and connecting agents to real systems via CLI tools or MCP
  • Exposure to data science and Machine learning technologies
