Job description

Job Description:

We have a new opportunity for a Senior Machine Vision Engineer to join our engineering team. In this role you will be working within a collaborative team on the development of next generation non-contacting measurement technologies and processes for video extensometer products. You will lead the technical work from early feasibility studies through proof‑of‑concept prototypes and validation, with a strong emphasis on machine vision optics, illumination and optical filtering optimization, and digital image analysis algorithms. You will also translate successful prototypes into robust, real‑time implementations suitable for pilot units and eventual manufacturing transfer.Key Responsibilities
  • Lead feasibility studies and rapid prototyping to establish suitable measurement approaches, defining and building experimental setups and quantifying performance
  • Specify and optimize imaging optics and capture configurations (camera/sensor selection, lens choice, working distance, FOV/DOF tradeoffs)
  • Engineer illumination solutions to maximize target visibility and stability by controlling illumination geometry, wavelength, and optical filtering strategies
  • Create tools for algorithm testing, image quality evaluation, and regression testing
  • Develop software using OpenCV and one or more of: C, C++, C#, and/or MATLAB/Simulink; translate prototypes into deployable pipelines
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
  • Degree in Physics, Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer or Software Engineering with 7-10 years of experience in the design, development and launch of vision products.
  • Machine vision optics (imaging system design, lens/camera selection, calibration fundamentals)
  • Optimization of illumination and filtering techniques for surface contrast enhancement across different material texture, finish and topography (geometry/wavelength/filters; glare/reflection management, contrast optimization)
  • Digital image analysis techniques and algorithms for inspection and measurement
  • Ability to design and build real time systems using one or more of the following:  object-oriented programming, OpenCV, MATLAB, Simulink, C, C++, C# or Linux.
  • Knowledge of data and signal processing and analysis.
  • Experience with software such as Excel, Minitab and PowerPoint.
  • Desired attributes:
    • Proven strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
    • Able to create, collaborate and work within team environments.
    • Innovative with strong problem-solving capabilities.
    • Self-starter showing front to back ownership and sense of urgency
Preferred:
  • Familiarity with GPU, SOM and SOC platforms
  • Experience in implementation of DIC based solutions
  • Experience specifying/procuring vision components (cameras, lenses, lighting, controllers, optical filters) and validating end-to-end performance
  • Familiarity with material testing systems
Working Conditions:Office & Laboratory environment with little, if any, exposure to adverse conditions.Reporting Relationship:Reports to Technical Engineering Manager.

Compensation Information:

This position has a starting salary range of $140,000-$160,000 per year. Pay is determined by several factors, including a candidate’s experience, relevant skills, and qualifications
