Job Title: Machine Shop Supervisor

Job Description

The Machine Shop Supervisor oversees all production activities on the machine shop floor and ensures that daily operations run smoothly and safely. This role leads shift meetings, assigns team members to machines, coordinates with maintenance on equipment issues, and ensures adherence to established processes and procedures. The supervisor reports to the machine shop manager and plays a key role in implementing changes discussed in meetings and maintaining an efficient, organized, and productive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all production activities on the machine shop floor to ensure safe, efficient, and consistent operations.
  • Take attendance at the beginning of each shift and ensure proper staffing levels across the shop.
  • Lead and run shift meetings to communicate daily priorities, safety reminders, and production goals.
  • Assign workers to specific machines or workstations each day based on production needs and skill sets.
  • Coordinate with the maintenance team to discuss down machines, report issues, and support timely repairs.
  • Ensure all team members follow established processes, procedures, and operational standards.
  • Attend required meetings with leadership and other departments to review performance, issues, and updates.
  • Implement and communicate any changes or process improvements discussed in meetings to the shop floor.
  • Monitor production output and quality to support operational goals and on-time delivery.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership, guidance, and direction to machine shop employees.
  • Support a safe working environment by reinforcing safety practices and addressing concerns promptly.
  • Assist with general industrial and production-related tasks as needed to support overall operations.

Work Environment

This role is based in a machine shop environment operating on second and third shifts. The second shift runs from 2:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with the expectation of some weekend work. The third shift runs from 10:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., Monday through Friday, also with some weekend work expected. The machine shop is not climate controlled, so temperatures may vary with the seasons, but fans are located at each machine and station to improve air circulation and comfort. The setting is a typical industrial production floor with active machinery, requiring appropriate safety awareness and adherence to shop-floor procedures.

The pay range for this position is $65000.00 - $85000.00/yr.
