Job description


The Model Shop Machinist is responsible for the fabrication, modification, repair, and assembly of precision parts, tooling, fixtures, and equipment used to support manufacturing, engineering, maintenance, and facility operations. This position requires a skilled machinist capable of working independently from engineering drawings, sketches, and customer requirements to produce high-quality components utilizing conventional and CNC machining equipment.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
  • Fabricate precision components, fixtures, tooling, prototypes, and equipment modifications to required specifications.
  • Operate manual and CNC mills, lathes, grinders, saws, drill presses, and other machine shop equipment.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, blueprints, and sketches.
  • Determine appropriate manufacturing methods and machining sequence to efficiently complete projects.
  • Perform troubleshooting, repair, and modification of existing equipment and tooling.
  • Collaborate directly with engineering, maintenance, facilities, and manufacturing teams to develop solutions for operational challenges.
  • Select appropriate materials, tooling, cutting parameters, and machining techniques.
  • Maintain accurate job documentation and provide status updates on assigned work.
  • Support material procurement by identifying required materials and components for assigned projects.
  • Promote continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, cost reduction, and efficiency.
  • Follow all safety, environmental, and quality procedures.
