Job description

Van-Am Tool & Engineering is seeking an experienced Machine Shop/Tool Room Supervisor to oversee daily machine shop operations in our AS9100-certified manufacturing environment. This leadership role is responsible for driving safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and employee development while ensuring precision machined components consistently meet customer and regulatory requirements. The position supervises CNC and manual machining operations, coordinates production activities across multiple departments, and supports continuous improvement initiatives.

What You Will Do

  • Lead and develop machinists and machining personnel to achieve safety, quality, delivery, and productivity objectives.
  • Coordinate production schedules, staffing, machine utilization, and workflow.
  • Ensure compliance with AS9100, customer specifications, engineering drawings, GD&T, and internal quality procedures.
  • Monitor departmental KPIs including productivity, scrap, rework, downtime, and on-time delivery.
  • Partner with Engineering, Quality, Scheduling, Maintenance, and Production leadership to resolve issues and improve operational performance.
  • Champion Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining a safe, organized workplace.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of machining experience, including CNC machining, with previous manufacturing leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Experience in an aerospace, defense, precision manufacturing, or AS9100-certified environment is strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of machining processes, tooling, blueprint reading, GD&T, ERP systems, and production planning.
  • Proven ability to coach employees, solve problems, manage priorities, and improve operational performance.
