THE OPPORTUNITY

We are currently recruiting for a Service Shop Manager to join a growing heavy equipment dealership in Woodbridge, Ontario. Our client is a leading provider of heavy equipment sales, rentals, parts, and service, specializing in the asphalt paving and road construction industry.


In this leadership role, you will oversee the daily operations of the service shop, managing technician scheduling, workflow, work orders, parts coordination, customer communication, quoting, invoicing, and overall shop performance. You will play a key role in driving productivity, improving processes, and ensuring the shop operates efficiently while delivering exceptional customer service.

The ideal candidate has extensive heavy equipment experience, proven leadership skills, and thrives in a fast-paced service environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and manage the daily operations of the heavy equipment service shop
  • Coordinate technician schedules, repair priorities, field service work, rentals, and customer repairs
  • Assign work based on technician skill sets, customer commitments, equipment requirements, and shop capacity
  • Monitor workflow to maximize productivity, equipment uptime, and repair turnaround times
  • Prepare repair estimates, quotes, job costing, and customer approvals
  • Manage work orders, technician time, service documentation, and invoicing through the company's ERP system
  • Coordinate with Parts, Sales, Rentals, Purchasing, and Administration to ensure efficient shop operations
  • Communicate with customers by providing repair updates and resolving service concerns professionally
  • Track parts availability and proactively prevent repair delays
  • Coach, mentor, and develop a team of experienced technicians while promoting accountability and teamwork
  • Support mechanic in shop
  • Identify opportunities to improve shop efficiency, productivity, and profitability
  • Ensure a clean, organized, and safety-focused work environment
  • Maintain compliance with company policies and health & safety standards


REQUIREMENTS

  • 10 years of experience in the heavy equipment industry as a mechanic
  • 5 years of leadership experience
  • Strong understanding of heavy equipment repairs, technician scheduling, parts coordination, and service operations
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop skilled technicians
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and customer service skills
  • Experience with work orders, quoting, job costing, invoicing, and service documentation
  • Experience with paving or road construction equipment is considered an asset
  • Previous experience as a Shop Manager, Service Manager, Shop Foreman, or Service Coordinator
  • Experience with NetSuite, Shepherd, or similar ERP/service management software
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Valid driver's license
