JOB SUMMARY

The Machine Shop Manager will be responsible for production deliverables in the Boonton Machine Shop and will lead a team of operators and machinists across multiple shifts in the fabrication of complex, tightly tolerance, high quality pump and valve components. The Manager will serve as a focal point of all machining operations within the company and requires coordination of work with other departmental supervisors, machinists, sub-contractors, engineering and management to ensure timely delivery of quality parts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for overseeing all machining operations of the Boonton facility.
  • Hands on leader who is detail oriented, strategic, and can train and develop all machining personnel (CNC Programmers, Set Up, and Operators).
  • Responsible for initiating clear directives for the machining department, drive continual improvement efforts, oversee & monitor quality control, and lead all production planning and supply chain logistics efforts.
  • Responsible for keeping the work area, machines, and machine tooling inventory clean & organized and monitor basic preventive maintenance of the equipment.
  • Lead and develop Lean Manufacturing Initiatives to enhance Continuous Improvement.
  • Responsible to estimate all set up, run times, and lead times for all of the machine shop quoted jobs.
  • Interpret all drawing & blueprint specifications, dimensions and tolerances to determine the most cost effective/efficient sequence of manufacturing operations and set up requirements.
  • Maintain consistent continuity between shifts by effectively establishing procedures/documentation that communicate action plans, irregularities, and continuing needs effectively.
  • Communicate daily with production team, quality department, and management top priorities/concerns and resolve all machining quality issues timely.
  • Ensure work continuity throughout the machine shop with a sense of urgency based on priority and customer needs/requests.
  • Manage job profitability of all manufacturing job #’s run through the machining area by reviewing/ analyzing, in detail, actual hours verse estimated hours by set up and run times by each machining operation. Then implement continual improvement efforts as necessary.
  • Develop systems and procedures that track and monitor productivity metrics and performance targets to ensure the machining departments is optimizing returns for the company.
  • Attend daily production meetings and provide status updates on all machining orders.
  • Ensure the accurate monitoring, recording, and reporting of all machining personnel labor hours each day by Job # and operation # in the Bill of Materials by reviewing and approving each employee timecard in a format requested by the front office.
  • Ensure orders are shipped on time through production planning and purchasing of raw material and components.
  • Support Production Planning & Purchasing identifying priorities / potential shortages of raw material and components.
  • Prioritization of Equipment balancing Production / R&D Requirements.
  • Ensure parts are manufactured to stated requirements.
  • Minimize machine downtime
  • Demonstrate ability to interact and cooperate with all company employees, and customers.
  • Build trust, value others, communicate effectively, drive execution, foster innovation, focus on the customer, collaborate with others, solve problems creatively and demonstrate high integrity.
  • Maintain professional internal and external relationships that meet company core values.
  • Proactively establish and maintain effective working team relationships with all support departments.
  • Work as directed by manager.


Health & Safety:

  • Report and take required action regarding injuries, incidents, medical, and accidents required by policy.
  • Make the health, safety, protection of rights, and the development of all employees your primary responsibilities.
  • Effectively manage medical and first aid emergencies.
  • Follow all agency safety/medical related policies and procedures.
  • Follow fire evacuation and disaster procedures correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Report unsafe situations immediately; ensuring safety is imperative.
  • Ensure pertinent emergency telephone numbers are readily available.
  • Report symptoms and signs of communicable diseases immediately.
  • Consistently use universal precautions.
  • Report any incident that could potentially result in negative reactions from the community, law enforcement officers, and other agencies to the supervisor immediately.


EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS, QUALIFICIATIONS, and TRAININGS

  • Minimum 5-year experience in a high mix low volume production environment
  • Understanding of CNC machine scheduling
  • Understanding of assembly scheduling
  • Led / Participation in Lean Manufacturing Initiatives.
  • Experience in an ISO 9001-2008 work environment is a must.
  • The ability to multitask and motivate employees is essential
  • The ability to read blueprints and mechanical drawings is a pre-requisite.
  • Excellent written and oral communication is required and the ability to execute initiatives to satisfy customer demands and exceed customer expectations is critical.
  • Must have knowledge and experience of utilizing all types of precision measurement equipment.
  • Excellent organization and analytical skills along with demonstrating a strong work ethic and superior technical abilities.


COMPUTER AND SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS

  • Microsoft: Office 365; SharePoint; Teams; Visio; and OneNote preferred.
  • Epicor experience preferred.
  • Ability to operate media equipment such as tablets, smartphones, and other electronic equipment.
  • Ability to work with general office equipment.
  • Ability to work with and understand databases a must and the ability to learn technical skills.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Shall have essential physical skills; be able to run, squat, stoop/bend, kneel, climb stairs, be able to lift at least 50 pounds (or ¼ own body weight).
  • Shall have adequate vision, reading, writing, and documentation skills, and hearing to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Must have enough endurance to perform tasks over long periods of time.
  • Will be engaged in speaking, sitting, walking, driving, listening, and in communicating both orally and in writing while performing his or her duties.
  • Must be able to listen and respond to questions and instructions.
