SUMMARY: The Machine Shop Supervisor directs and coordinates activities of the CNC Machining Department in safety, materials management, productivity / job / work order management, scheduling and personnel management. The Machine Shop Supervisor prepares work schedules and delegates workflow along with ensuring machine function and output are in accordance with specifications and quality standards. The Machine Shop Supervisor monitors and evaluates production records and reports findings to management. Along with training machine operators and machinists. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee daily functions of the CNC Machining department.
  • Provide all personnel with work assignments and maintain a constant work level.
  • Work directly with personnel to provide instruction and guidance.
  • Identify training needs and provide training where required.
  • Verify that all previous operations have been signed off before assigning a job.
  • Schedule jobs to run by priorities set on the production board coordinating with the production manager to maintain a smooth workflow.
  • Make sure that new jobs for the CNC machines are programmed and special tooling for any job is identified and ordered in advance.
  • Identify problems with production / quality and be prepared to identify the root cause of any of these problems.
  • Train department personnel in basic quality procedures, work instructions, and documents that pertain to your department.
  • Verify that all first piece inspections are performed and approved.
  • Ensure all department personnel keep their work area and machines clean, coolant levels up, chips from removed from their machines and areas at the end of their shift and when their job is finished.
  • Responsible for verifying that all company inspection equipment and tools in the department are in calibration.
  • Ensure that all jobs are identified with a job number.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and ensure proper eye and hearing protection is used by all team members under their supervision.
  • Responsible for team member clocking and timecard review.
  • Perform all functions of the job while adhering to established quality policies and procedures.
  • Uphold the company core values.
  • Other duties as assigned.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises team members in the CNC Machining department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities to include; interviewing, and training team members; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining team members; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • Computer skills: Outlook email, Excel data entry, Word, log in and out of ERP and Payroll time tracking software.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); 2 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to speak and understand basic safety and manufacturing instructions.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add and subtract decimals out to 4 places. Ability to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.
