Heavy Equipment Intern - Service Technician Position Purpose
The Heavy Equipment Service Technician Intern at Kirby-Smith Machinery is responsible for working alongside experienced technicians to learn the skills needed to diagnose and repair heavy equipment. This position offers the intern the opportunity to gain hands-on experience, technical training, and become familiar with the distributor environment. - Practices and promotes safe work habits, following company policies and safety regulations
- Assists experienced technicians with diagnostics in mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems, repairs, and maintenance of heavy equipment
- Continuously learns to interpret technical documents, such as schematics, service manuals, and inspection reports
- Observes experienced technicians to learn how to properly order parts, complete service documents, and perform repair processes
- Completes assigned tasks accurately and efficiently while demonstrating a willingness to learn
- Maintains a clean and organized work area, including shop tools and equipment
- Attends training sessions, toolbox talks, and team meetings
- Consistent and reliable on-site attendance

- Pushes/Pulls/Lifts/Carries up to 100 pounds
- Physical ability to squat, twist, turn, bend, stoop, climb, and reach overhead
- Ability to work in extreme heat or cold and wet, damp, dusty, or windy conditions and tolerate exposure to typical noises, hazardous materials, and fumes/odorsÂ
- Physical ability to perform maintenance on equipment for extended hours, with continual mounting and dismounting throughout the workday
- Adheres to personal protective equipment (PPE) policy and maintains individual PPE in a functional condition
