Job description

Job Title: Production Machine Operator / Production Machine Technician

Job Description

This role involves operating and supporting production machinery in a metal manufacturing environment. You will load and unload sheet metal, set up and adjust machines, perform basic preventive maintenance, and ensure parts meet specifications using blueprints and precision measuring tools. You will work closely with a partner on various presses and CNC equipment to support efficient, safe, and high-quality production.

Responsibilities

  • Load and unload sheet metal to and from production machines, including punch presses, hydraulic presses, and brake presses.
  • Operate production machinery safely and efficiently to meet daily output and quality targets.
  • Read and interpret blueprints to ensure parts meet dimensional and quality requirements.
  • Use precision measuring tools such as tape measures, micrometers, and calipers to verify part dimensions and tolerances.
  • Lift and handle materials weighing up to 50 pounds throughout the day while following safe lifting practices.
  • Set up production machines, including tooling changes and adjustments for punch presses, hydraulic presses, and brake presses (for Machine Technicians).
  • Edit and adjust machine programs at the machine to optimize performance and ensure accurate production (for Machine Technicians).
  • Perform basic preventative maintenance on machines to maintain reliability and minimize downtime (for Machine Technicians).
  • Monitor machines during operation, identify issues, and communicate or correct problems to maintain product quality.
  • Collaborate and work in pairs with another team member (Machine Operator and Machine Technician) to complete production tasks.
  • Follow shop math practices to calculate measurements, dimensions, and adjustments as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area, adhering to all safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Support cross-training efforts by learning additional machines, processes, and departments as needed.

Essential Skills

  • At least 1 year of experience running a machine within a metal manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency using precision measuring tools, including micrometers, calipers, and tape measures.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints for metal fabrication and machining.
  • Solid shop math skills to perform measurements, calculations, and basic dimensional checks.
  • Experience operating machines such as press brakes, punch presses, hydraulic presses, lasers, turrets, or CNC equipment.
  • Ability to perform machine setup, including tooling changes and adjustments (required for Machine Technicians and strongly preferred for Machine Operators).
  • Capability to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift.
  • Comfort working in a production environment that can be hot and dirty at times.
  • Basic understanding of preventative maintenance tasks on production machinery (especially for Machine Technicians).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with CNC machinery in a metal fabrication environment
