Job description

Job Summary
GA's Electromagnetic Systems (EMS) Group focuses on the military and commercial applications of advanced electromagnetic technologies, including power generation and distribution, magnetic levitation, laser and weapons systems, and systems design and engineering. The EMS Group supports government customers, which include the Department of Defense, Department of Energy, the Department of Transportation as well as a range of commercial customers.
With occasional supervision, and detailed instructions, this position is responsible for running multi axis CNC machines to produce production parts or tooling. With limited oversight, this position will be asked to set up complex parts on multi axis CNC machines, including 5th axis mills, multi spindle lathes/VTL, and horizontal mills.
DUTIES & RESPONISIBILITES:
  • Run production to print and budget on multi axis CNC machines.
  • Set up and produce 1st piece on moderately complex parts with multi axis CNC machines.
  • Use standard and advanced measuring devises and techniques to ensure the quality of the parts.
  • Work through new processes and provide feedback to Programmers and Manufacturing Engineers.
  • Trouble shoot tooling and work holding issues during production runs.
  • Clean machine and work area.
  • Deburr parts
  • Perform gathering/building cutting tools, fixtures, and raw material.
  • After complete instructions, operates CNC or manual machines and inspect parts utilizing blue print dimensions and prescribed gages.
  • Monitor and verifies quality in accordance with GA procedures.
  • Prepares and saw cuts raw material.
  • May layout, fabricate, and assemble components.
  • May monitor and verify quality of work performed by equal or lower level personnel, such as fist part inspection.
  • May provide guidance or training to lower level machinist.
  • On occasions, help/train new machinist on machining principles and Company procedures.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Job Qualifications
  • Typically requires an associate's degree, technical/trade school training or equivalent and seven or more years related experience. Additional experience may be substituted for formal education.
  • Must be customer focused and possess:
    • The ability to perform complex set-ups and fabrication of machined parts.
    • Advanced knowledge of machining equipment, including the ability to use judgment and safe practices.
    • Must have an advanced understanding of cutting tool wear, selection, and replacement.
    • Must be able to read standard G and M code for CNC machines.
    • The ability to write simple NC code for work holdings and/or fixtures.
    • Must have a working knowledge of GD&T.
    • Must have advanced knowledge of work coordinate systems and how they are used in CNC processes.
    • The ability to read and understand engineering blue prints and diagrams.
    • Must be able to trouble shoot processes and provide feedback.
    • Must be able to work in a Team environment, including times where multiple people are developing processes.
    • Good interpersonal skills and written communication skills to interface with employees and supervisors.
    • Basic computer skills.
  • Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours as required.
