Job description

The Grinding Machine Operator runs machines that grind trimmed material into pellets and stages that material to be sent back to manufacturer for recycling.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Prior to operating, makes visual inspection of grinding machines for any apparent problem or maintenance issues
• Labels each grinding machine with appropriate labels and visually confirms that the label on the "Gaylord" (extra heavy box) and the scrap are all matching
• Ensures that there is a quality pallet under the Gaylord and that it can hold up to 1800 pounds of regrind material
• With machine turned on, loads trimmed scrap pieces into the grinding chute, keeping hands from close proximity to the chute
• Stays close to machine while operating to react in case machine gets jammed with scrap material
• Ensures that the Safety Curtain stays in correct position to avoid throw back of materials out of chute
• Follows safety procedures for change over to new materials; Lockout machine, blowing machine clean
• Using pallet jacks, moves full gaylords of material to staging area to be sent back to manufacturer
• Ensures that trimmed scrap coming into grinding area is labeled correctly
• Complete water flotation testing, to ensure the gaylord is not contaminated.
• Follow all clean up and housekeeping procedures
• Comply with all quality, safety and work rules and regulations
• Other duties may be assigned as necessary
Requirements
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Basic skills in reading, writing and arithmetic are necessary
Ability to follow detailed work instructions
Good manual dexterity is necessary
Basic computer understanding
Knowledge of machinery
Education and Experience:
High school diploma, GED or equivalent experience
Previous machine operations experience preferred
Physical Demands:
This role requires frequent use of hands and fingers, close and moderate-distance vision, and strict adherence to safety procedures. Employees stand for most of the shift, with occasional walking, bending, stooping, and reaching. The position may require lifting up to 35-50 lbs.
Work Environment:
Work is performed in a manufacturing setting with adequate lighting and moderate to high noise levels. Required PPE includes safety glasses and hearing protection; grinding operators must wear both earplugs and earmuffs. Additional PPE (e.g., gloves, face masks, face shields) may be required based on tasks. Temperatures can be high, especially in warmer months; employees are encouraged to stay hydrated.
