Description
The purpose of the Equipment Operator classification within the W&S Maintenance department is to operate various types of motor equipment and perform labor-related duties throughout the city
Examples of Duties
*The functions listed below are those that represent most of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
  • Drives and operates a variety of trucks and equipment for the purpose of maintaining and repairing city streets, sidewalks, curbs, sewer services and mains, water services and mains, lift stations, and ROW's.
  • Cleans catch basins, drainage ditches, and ROW debris; breaks up pavement, patches potholes, repair curbs, replace pavers, cuts grass as needed.
  • Assists with the removal and clean-up of large trees in city owned ROW's.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and minor repair on tools, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Installs and repairs water mains and services, sewer mains and services. repair and replace manhole ring and lids, pulls repairs and replaces lift station pumps, routinely washes and services lift stations.
  • Transports materials, equipment, and supplies to and from work sites. conducts both pre-trip and post trip inspections of trucks and equipment to ensure proper use as well as upkeep, loads and secures trucks, fuels trucks and equipment as needed.
  • Operates various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies to complete assigned functions.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Typical Qualifications
Education: Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
Experience: Requires six months of experience in manual labor and in the use and operation of vehicles and equipment; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
