Envelope Machine Operator/Mechanic Trainee
Join our team and play an essential role in ensuring high-quality envelope production!
Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated Envelope Machine Operator / Mechanic Trainee to operate, adjust, and maintain envelope folding machines in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role is essential to maintaining product quality, maximizing machine efficiency, and supporting continuous improvement efforts. Training is provided for candidates with strong mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn.
Key Responsibilities
  • Change the machine settings from one envelope style and size to another, minimizing downtime.
  • Maintain the quality of the envelopes being produced, including folding, printing, gumming, latexing, and any other attachments.
  • Ensure proper approvals for every job manufactured.
  • Actively participate in and support lean manufacturing activities.
  • Prepare necessary parts and attachments before machine changes to reduce downtime.
  • Seek management guidance when quality is compromised for machine speed.
  • Ensure the correct gum is used for each job, including seal gum, back gum, window gum, or any special gum required.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, changes, and maintenance performed.
  • Monitor machine for wear and tears, reporting any issues to the department supervisor.
  • Continuously review each job for potential process improvements.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
  • Follow all safety protocols and regulations.
  • Collaborate effectively with operators, floor operators, and adjusters across shifts and departments.
  • Complete scheduled maintenance and additional duties as assigned

Compensation: $18.00-$22.50 per hour, based on experience, plus a $1.50 per hour night shift differential
Shifts Available:
Night Shift: 6:00 PM - 6:00 AM
Rotating Schedule (Includes Various Weekends):
  • Week 1: 48 hours (Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday)
  • Week 2: 36 hours (Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday)

Skills & Qualifications
  • Mechanical aptitude preferred; prior experience is a plus but not required.
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet production deadlines
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to read and follow written, verbal, and diagram-based instructions
  • Good communication and teamwork skills

Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Previous machine operation or mechanical experience is a plus but not required
  • On-the-job training provided for motivated candidates

Physical Requirements & Work Environment
This role requires:
  • Regular standing and frequent use of hands for handling materials and machine adjustments.
  • Occasional walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Lifting and moving up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Specific vision abilities, including color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts.
