Job description

The packaging machine operator (โ€œpackerโ€) is an entry level position at PPC Industries.ย  This position is designed to give the employee an opportunity to learn about the blown film business with the option to move further within the corporation.ย  The packer will generally be responsible for packaging finished product from multiple extrusion lines.ย  In addition to packaging product, the packer is also essential in the quality control process, the set up process and assisting in the operation of the extrusion process.ย  A successful packer will be a motivated individual with the desire to learn the details of the extrusion process and to progress their career at PPC Industries.ย  The packer position is a full time position that supports blown film manufacturing at PPC Industriesโ€™ Pleasant Prairie facility.ย  ย 

Essential Job Functions

  • All safety regulations must be observed.ย  Packers must also follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Good Documentation Practices (GDPs).
  • Packaging finished product appropriately as trained.
  • Responsible for quality of product that is being packaged.
  • Keep work area clean / organized.ย  No product or packaging materials should be on the floor.ย  Packers will be responsible for properly handling scrap product (from in front of as well as behind packaging equipment).ย  Packers should only bring the materials they need to their linesโ€”no extra pallets or boxes.
  • Perform Quality Control checks as required by Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Responsible for operation of the rewind machine (Doctor machines).
  • Responsible for the operation of the winder equipment (front end only).
  • Responsible for labeling / pack off / shrink wrapping pallets of finished product.
  • Documenting the run record for the manufactured product.
  • Notification to Lead Operator / Supervisor if extrusion equipment, bag machine or winder (back end) are functioning abnormally (product or equipment).
  • Support re-grind process by loading scrap rolls for the grinding equipment.
  • Support production efforts and provide line coverage to allow others to take breaks.
  • Support training new employees as requested by management.

Non-essential Job Functions

  • Responsible to support Lead Operator during setup and operation of extrusion equipment, bag machine and winder (back end).
  • Assist with minor maintenance.

Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs consistently and higher occasionally.
  • Ability to work on a rotating 12 hour shift schedule (day / night).
  • Willingness to listen and learn from co-workers within the plant.
  • Basic math skills to complete calculation and measurement of product.
  • Basic computer skills to input data / interface with Material Management Systems.

Other Skills/Abilities

  • Be able to perform length, gauge and weight measurements.
    • Use of hand tools, such as wrenches, scrapers, die gauges, screwdrivers, tape measures, micrometer, etc.
  • Be able to visually inspect product for defects.
