ABOUT THE POSITION:

Responsible for operating machines to ensure that quality standards are consistently met, the line meets schedule attainment and line efficiency standards, the mechanical operations run smoothly and Operator 1’s can operate the following lines: Multivac, Circle 40, Shrink Tunnel, Velocity, Ultracan, Shaking, Delinking, Jerky Mixing, Batching, Stuffing, and Spice Blend.


SCHEDULE:

  • 1st shift
  • 8 hours per day with possible daily overtime and during peak summer/fall production. Please note you may need to work Saturdays.

WAGE: $23.00 - $29.00 per hour DOE.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

May perform one or all the following job functions:


  • Ensure meat, dates, tape, labels, and other supplies are correct according to product specifications.
  • Ensure efficient packaging by setting up workstations correctly and effectively.
  • Demonstrate leadership by directing employees to assist others where needed on other lines or rework when machines are down.
  • Encourage team to be ready to start on time in the morning, after breaks and lunch.
  • Perform product quality and QA checks to eliminate or reduce product waste or rework, these may include but are not limited to hourly weight or count checks, oxygen level tests, metal detection, or blade inspection.
  • Maximize quality and efficiency by adjusting machines registration, sealing temperature, speed, gas levels, and slicing width.
  • Encourage teamwork by informing each team member of their role and responsibility on the line and motivating team members to achieve expected hourly output.
  • Maintain current records by filling out required paperwork correctly and completely throughout the run.
  • Able to load and thread film on packaging lines.
  • Performs metal detection.
  • Prepare work area by assembling and setting up workstations.
  • Ensure that meat being batched/mixed is to specifications.
  • Ensure that correct spices are used and properly recorded in a timely manner.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards and account for all inedible products.
  • Stage spices to be used by, making sure that all foreign material (cardboard, plastic, etc.) is removed and that all proper handling procedures are followed.
  • As directed, perform basic maintenance to equipment, maintain cleanliness of equipment and clean equipment as necessary.
  • Ensure proper identification of product by recording weights of tubs/totes with proper batch number and ingredient ticket weights.
  • Observe machine operations to ensure quality and conformity of filled or packaged products to standards.
  • Remove finished packaged items from machine and separate rejected items.
  • Stop or reset machines when malfunctions occur, clear machine jams, and report malfunctions to a lead or supervisor.
  • Able to set up and adjust the check weighers.
  • Stock and sort product for packaging machine operation and coordinate the replenishing of packaging supplies such as film, WIP, boxes, clip strips, or ageless.
  • Inspect and remove defective products and packaging materials.
  • Manage machine change over’s including sanitizing machine for species or allergen changes.
  • Run labels according to product specifications.
  • Ensure that proper safety and sanitation measures are followed by instructing employees on proper company procedures and then monitoring personnel to make sure all procedures are being followed.
  • Ensure smooth flow of work by monitoring production on the processing machine operation (Spice Blending, Shaking, Stuffing, and Delinking). Assign people to various functions of the machine and operation as needed. Maintain appropriate communication with all personnel and make decisions when necessary.
  • Keep track of production as it relates to schedules and scheduling. Monitor production levels of crew and machine to ensure required production standards are met.
  • Follow through on delegated tasks and assist where necessary.
  • Maintain even workflow by being organized and planning and making changes as needed or directed.
  • Ensure all persons on the processing machines and crew are properly trained, and time worked is properly recorded.
  • Ensure accurate calibration of machines, and that machinery is in good repair. Notify lead, supervisor and, if appropriate, maintenance if machine operation is out of the scope of efficiency and safety according to prescribed standards and procedures.
  • Assist lead and/or supervisor by training all new personnel, monitoring performance, and ensuring that procedures are followed.
  • Maintain product integrity throughout the area of responsibility, checking product for proper materials, specifications, labeling, etc. Performs quality checks on product to ensure optimum quality.
  • Perform raw material audits and check weights.
  • Follow all specification sheets.
  • Grind, add, and record rework keeping all items separate and properly identified.
  • Ensure that meat being batched is to specifications.
  • Ensure that correct spices are used and properly recorded in a timely manner.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards and account for all inedible products.
  • Verify that meat that is stacked on pallets is the same as batch ticket.
  • Utilize team members efficiently during machine downtime by directing personnel to work on special projects or in other departments. If nothing is available, the machine operator will have crew report to department lead.
    • Inform Management of any Food Safety or Quality issues or of any processes, which have become noncompliant with specified requirements.
    • Follow established programs, policies, and practices to produce safe quality foods that meet regulatory and company requirements.
    • Maintain accountability to Oberto Brands Food Safety and Quality Principles.
  • Support the development, implementation, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of the SQF 2000 Systems.
  • Back-up: Operator 1 is back-up for Operator Trainee.
  • Back-up: Operator 1 is backed up by Operator 2, 3.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School (minimum)
  • 6 months manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Pallet Jack experience preferred.
  • Lock-Out Tag-Out Certified (OJT).
  • Familiarity with HACCP (OJT), SQF preferred.
  • Other Food Safety, Quality, Technical, and Regulatory Training as needs determine appropriate.
  • Must be able to lift 25lbs - 35lbs frequently and 40lbs - 50lbs occasionally.
  • Understanding and compliance with all GMPs (OJT)
  • Understanding and compliance with all personal safety rules (OJT)
  • Position requires an understanding or food safety, quality, and SQF fundamentals provided through annual in-house and on the job training.
  • Ability to work with other people in a cooperative manner.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work environment is that of an office environment. This employee regularly works with office equipment, materials, chemicals, wet floors and with wet equipment when on the production floor. This employee work around high voltage, hot water, and steam

  • Willing to work in a various-temperature environment
  • Ability to handle items weighting under 50lbs or may need to move objects safely and with proper body mechanics.
