What is a Machine Learning Robotics job?

A Machine Learning Robotics job involves developing algorithms that enable robots to learn from data and improve their performance over time. Professionals in this field work on applications such as autonomous navigation, robotic perception, and human-robot interaction. They use techniques like deep learning, reinforcement learning, and computer vision to enhance a robot's ability to understand and interact with its environment. This role typically requires expertise in machine learning, robotics, and software development, along with strong problem-solving skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Machine Learning Robotics position, and why are they important?

To excel in Machine Learning Robotics, a strong background in computer science, robotics, and machine learning algorithms, often supported by a relevant degree (such as in engineering or computer science), is essential. Familiarity with programming languages like Python or C++, frameworks such as TensorFlow or ROS (Robot Operating System), and experience with simulation tools are highly valuable, and certifications in AI or robotics can further enhance employability. Strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and the ability to work collaboratively in cross-disciplinary teams help professionals stand out. These capabilities are crucial for designing, developing, and refining intelligent robotic systems that perform reliably in real-world environments.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in Machine Learning Robotics?

Professionals in Machine Learning Robotics often encounter challenges like integrating machine learning models with robotic hardware, ensuring reliable performance in unpredictable real-world settings, and managing computational limitations on embedded systems. Addressing these challenges usually requires creative problem-solving and close collaboration with hardware engineers, software developers, and data scientists. You may also need to continuously refine models and testing processes based on real-time feedback and evolving project goals. This dynamic environment makes the work both demanding and highly rewarding for those eager to push the boundaries of automation and intelligent systems.

Job description

Overview
Are you passionate about shaping the future of construction through innovation? As an AI Innovation Coordinator, you will help shape how our heavy civil projects leverage artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. You'll coordinate AI initiatives across the company, working closely with operations and leadership to identify opportunities, pilot solutions, and deploy AI-driven automations that improve safety, quality, schedule, and cost performance.
Apply now and transform your career with us.
This role is open to our on site offices in Broomfield, CO or Atlanta, GA.
What you will be doing
  • Coordinate AI innovation initiatives, pilots, and workshop activities focused on heavy civil construction operations.
  • Partner with Company and Operations leadership to design, test, and implement AI agents and automations in project and corporate workflows.
  • Research and analyze AI opportunities (e.g., predictive analytics, computer vision, document intelligence, planning/scheduling tools) and assess their practical application in the field and office.
  • Support and coordinate data collection, data modelling, and testing sessions to evaluate AI use cases and prepare them for project deployment.
  • Work closely with internal champion groups to develop innovation tools, training content, software standards, and implementation roadmaps.
  • Help define and maintain guidelines, procedures, and best practices for AI use across the organization, including responsible and ethical use.
  • Promote awareness, adoption, and effective use of AI tools by delivering demos, training sessions, and ongoing support for project teams.
  • Track performance metrics, KPIs and lessons learned from AI initiatives and communicate outcomes to stakeholders.

What we are looking for
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field; or
  • 5+ years of experience applying AI / advanced digital tools in heavy civil construction

Technical & Industry Experience
  • Experience with computer applications and productivity tools (e.g., Microsoft 365 / MS Office Suite).
  • Exposure to or hands-on experience with emerging technologies such as IoT, machine learning, robotics, or advanced analytics.
  • Experience with technology application in construction and digital transformation (e.g., model-based workflows, field mobility tools, connected equipment, sensor data) is preferred.
  • Ability to interpret contract documents, construction drawings, specifications, and assess constructability.

AI & Innovation Mindset
  • Demonstrated interest in AI tools, platforms, and systems that drive efficiencies in the construction industry (e.g., generative AI, document automation, predictive insights).
  • Comfortable learning new software quickly and translating technical capabilities into practical field and office workflows.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to structure ambiguous problems and develop actionable solutions.
  • Effective communicator who can work with both technical teams and non-technical field/operations teams.
  • Collaborative, curious, and proactive-excited to experiment, learn, and help others adopt new ways of working.
  • Experience working in a large construction or engineering organization, particularly in heavy civil or infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with data visualization or basic analytics tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or similar).
  • Experience coordinating cross-functional teams and managing small projects or initiatives.
