Maintenance Technician – LaPorte, IN

Since 1925, Lewis Bakeries has proudly remained one of the few independent bakeries in the Midwest. We produce trusted brands like Bunny Bread, Lewis ½ Loaf, Healthy Life, Sunbeam, and Hartford Farms, delivering quality products families enjoy every day.

We're looking for a skilled Maintenance Technician to join our team at our LaPorte, Indiana bakery. If you enjoy solving mechanical challenges, keeping equipment running at peak performance, and working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, we'd love to hear from you.

What You'll Do

As a Maintenance Technician, you'll keep our production equipment and facility operating safely and efficiently. You'll perform preventive maintenance, diagnose equipment issues, complete repairs, and help minimize downtime across the bakery.

Responsibilities
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair packaging equipment, conveyors, ovens, boilers, refrigeration systems, and other bakery machinery.
  • Repair and maintain hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and PLC-controlled equipment.
  • Set up and maintain production machinery, including wrapping machines, natural gas-fired furnaces, gas fryers, dough mixers, batching and scaling systems, boilers, freezers, and conveyor systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and routine equipment inspections to maximize reliability and performance.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and sanitary work environment.
  • Ensure all equipment operates safely and complies with OSHA standards.
  • Complete facility maintenance for both interior and exterior areas as needed.
  • Investigate equipment failures and resolve issues affecting reliability, production throughput, product quality, or environmental compliance.
  • Support the maintenance team by completing additional duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Help keep our bakery running and our products on store shelves by joining the Lewis Bakeries maintenance team.

Requirements:

  • 1-3 years of experience troubleshooting and repairing machinery, preferably bakery equipment
  • Experience working safely with hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical, conveyors, refrigeration, boilers and electronics
  • Knowledgeable in preventative/predictive maintenance procedures
  • Must be able to work any shift, including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision but also able to work as a team
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Valid driver’s license and be forklift certified after orientation
  • Proven experience with Lock Out/Tag Out procedures
  • Personal tools required
  • Willing to undergo a background check, in accordance with local law/regulations
