Job Title: Manufacturing Helper - 1st or 3rd - up to 20/hr!

Job Description

This role supports production operators in a steel manufacturing environment by assisting with machine set-ups, material handling, and basic equipment monitoring. You help keep operations running smoothly by loading and unloading coils, checking product quality, and maintaining a clean, organized work area.

Responsibilities

  • Assist machine operators with production set-ups as required, ensuring equipment and materials are prepared for each run.
  • Observe material flow, coil feeders, and machine controls during operation and communicate any issues to the operator.
  • Load coils to welding equipment using a sit-down forklift and coil grippers in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Monitor equipment during operation to identify irregularities, potential malfunctions, or safety concerns.
  • Inspect material and finished pieces for quality, verifying that products meet required standards.
  • Unload material from machines and move it to designated areas for further processing or staging.
  • Restock coils and other materials to ensure continuous production and minimize downtime.
  • Maintain a clean and organized working area, following housekeeping and safety guidelines.
  • Unload finished goods to staging areas and prepare them for the next step in the process.
  • Cut, match, and weld coil ends as needed to support continuous production and proper material handling.

Essential Skills

  • Proven forklift experience, specifically with sit-down forklifts, in a production or warehouse setting.
  • Prior manufacturing experience in a plant, production, or industrial environment.
  • Experience operating or assisting with machines in a manufacturing setting.
  • Ability to use basic measuring tools such as a tape measure to verify material dimensions.
  • Comfort with general labor tasks including material handling, loading, unloading, and basic clean-up.
  • Ability to work safely around steel materials, moving equipment, and production machinery.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in a steel manufacturing or steel handling environment is preferred.
  • Experience in construction, production labor, or material handling is beneficial.

Work Environment

The role is based in a mid-size steel manufacturing facility that operates multiple shifts, including first and third shift options. Typical shift schedules follow a 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. pattern, with overtime generally added as two extra hours per shift to create 10-hour workdays; at least 24 hours’ notice is provided when overtime is scheduled. You work around steel materials, production machinery, forklifts, and material handling equipment in an industrial environment. The dress code includes jeans, steel-toe shoes, and long shirts or sleeves for safety. Gloves, arm sleeves, and a hard hat are provided as needed to support a safe and compliant work setting.

The pay range for this position is $39520.00 - $39520.00/yr.
