Job description

SUMMARY OF MAINTENANCE MECHANIC JOB: Possess all necessary maintenance, electrical skills to perform in depth electrical troubleshooting and repairs on all equipment and systems related to the operation of a food packaging facility. Implement, oversee, and keep records for a Preventive Maintenance Program. May have to apply mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic maintenance practices. PLC certification preferred. Possess PLC programming and troubleshooting skills.
Function as multi-craft technician, troubleshooting VFD's, mac valves, 3phase motors and control circuits.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR MAINTENANCE MECHANIC
  • Aid in developing and putting into operation a preventive maintenance program on all plant operations.
  • Trouble shoot and repair equipment necessary to operations. Inspect electrical components involve in machine control circuits, PLC, VFD, relays, overloads and HMI controls.
  • Read schematics and experience with multi-meter. Use testing devices to identify and report electrical problems
  • Aid in maintaining an orderly and complete inventory of repair parts and supplies essential to plant operations.
  • Identify and report repairs that need to be done on off production shifts.
  • Evaluate assigned projects and determine supplies needed to complete.
  • Perform all repairs in a sanitary manner with regard to food safety at all times.
  • Look for ways to improve production efficiencies and report ideas to department heads.
  • All duties requested by your direct supervisor or any upper member of management.
  • Maintains work area in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Other duties as assigned as required by your manager.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • Ability to read, write, add, subtract, multiply and divide.
  • Previous experience (3-5 years minimum) in industrial maintenance position specializing in industrial electrical controls (Additional experience required for levels " "III," and "Master"). Prior experience in food packaging preferred.
  • Levels II and above may require additional specialized training and education.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics and blueprints.

Knowledge of safe operation of all hand tools and test equipment necessary to perform the job, experience working with hydraulic operations, in the following:
  • Production and facility maintenance
  • Trouble shooting and repair on machine control and operation circuits
  • Pneumatic systems repair and a general knowledge of pneumatic systems
  • Safe plant maintenance operations

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalency required. Formal electrical training required.
LANGUAGE: Must be able to effectively communicate with all departments.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Use of standard calculator required as well as basic knowledge of fractions, decimals, and standard measuring equipment.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability required to prioritize and effectively handle demands of the job.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: A constant high-pressure environment with time frames to be met.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Very good with team support.
