Are you hands-on, dependable, and take pride in keeping facilities clean, safe, and well-maintained? LYNX is seeking a Facilities Maintenance & Groundskeeper also known at LYNX as Buildings & Groundskeeper A, to support the appearance and functionality of our facilities, bus stops, and shelters.
In this role, you'll perform custodial services, floor care, grounds maintenance, painting, light building repairs, and even setup activities. You will help ensure our facilities remain welcoming, safe, and operational for employees and the public while working both independently and as part of a team.
The ideal candidate is self-motivated, detail-oriented, and committed to providing excellent service while maintaining a clean and professional environment.
What You'll Do
  • Operate and maintain floor care equipment
  • Sweep, scrub, strip, wax, and polish floors
  • Perform lawn care, trimming, and litter removal at bus stops and shelters
  • Complete light maintenance tasks and minor repairs
  • Paint interior and exterior surfaces
  • Set up and move furniture and equipment for special events
  • Replace light bulbs and perform basic facility upkeep

Day in the Life:
This position is responsible for floor care at LYNX facilities and for performing a variety of maintenance, repair, and custodial services at LYNX bus stops, transfer centers, transit/passenger amenities, and facilities. This position takes directions from a facilities maintenance manager, supervisor, or lead. Incumbent in this position is eligible to participate in the Bloodborne Pathogen Program.
As a member of a bargaining unit, this position follows a seniority-based system for bidding on shifts and days off.
Essential Functions:
  • Operates and maintains heavy floor care equipment used in work.
  • Sweeps, scrubs, strips and polishes floors; shampoos carpeting.
  • Performs basic preventive maintenance services and lawn maintenance around bus shelters and bus stops (trims trees, edges, and picks
  • up trash).
  • Sets up furniture and prepares rooms for special functions.
  • Moves and arranges furniture and office equipment.
  • Replaces light bulbs and fluorescent tubes.
  • Paints interior and exterior of facilities.
  • Performs other duties as may be required or assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or General Education diploma (GED); plus
  • One year of full-time experience performing custodial work to include floor care; plus
  • Six months of experience painting the interior and exterior of buildings, or a combination of related education, experience, and training.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license and safe driving record.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
  • Knowledge of basic lawn maintenance and associated tools.
  • Knowledge of custodial and floor care methods, materials, equipment, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision; must be self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with those
  • encountered in the course of work using principles of excellent customer service.
  • Ability to exhibit a professional, courteous demeanor.
  • Ability to work in a diverse environment.

Work Environment and Special Considerations:
  • Will be available to workdays, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Works outside in varying weather conditions.
  • Operates a service vehicle, both automatic and standard transmissions.
  • Incumbent is eligible to participate in the Bloodborne Pathogen Program.
  • LYNX provides the community with much needed public transportation, and it is important for the Agency to resume its services as quickly and as safely as possible in the event of any natural, technological, or human-caused emergency or disaster. This position is considered a mission critical member of LYNX's emergency preparation and response efforts during an emergency or disaster and as such, requires 24-hour availability in the event of an emergency or disaster.
