How does an LVN in a hospital typically collaborate with registered nurses and other healthcare professionals?

In a hospital setting, Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) work closely with registered nurses (RNs), physicians, and allied health staff. LVNs often handle direct patient care tasks, such as monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and assisting with daily activities, under the supervision of RNs. Effective communication and teamwork are essential, as LVNs relay important patient information to RNs and physicians, support patient care plans, and sometimes mentor nursing assistants. This collaborative environment helps ensure high-quality patient care and provides LVNs with opportunities to learn and grow professionally.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an LVN in a hospital, and why are they important?

To thrive as an LVN in a hospital, you need a practical nursing diploma, LVN licensure, and strong skills in patient care, vital sign monitoring, and basic clinical procedures. Familiarity with hospital charting systems, electronic health records (EHRs), and medication administration tools is typically required. Excellent teamwork, communication, and compassion are vital soft skills for collaborating with healthcare teams and supporting patients. These abilities ensure safe, efficient, and patient-centered care in a dynamic hospital environment.
