Job description

Lush is more than just a fresh, handmade cosmetics company.  It is a company that wants to make skin, hair and bathing products in a way that benefits the world, not depletes it. We have strong opinions on nature, the environment, human rights & animal rights - and we try to build these into all our business practices.

Our search for best practice means we are constantly made aware of where the problems lay, and also brings us into close contact with others, such as charities, NGOs, activists and community groups who are working to make the world a better, safer, kinder place.

Over the years, Lush has made it a mission to help these groups, who share the same concerns as us, by helping fund their work and also, importantly, giving them a platform in our shop windows and websites to reach through to the public.

We have become known as a campaigning & giving company, for both our internal business practices and our willingness to highlight world issues in our windows. Staff and customers appreciate the integrity of Lush's values, hold us to account and are an active part of upholding our standards. For them our campaigns are a source of inspiration and pride.

A rare opportunity has come up to join our small, worldwide Campaigns Team so we are now looking for the perfect person to join our team to further the Lush values, help shape our public facing campaigns and engage with external groups who are working to improve the world. This role would suit someone who is driven by a desire to shift public awareness, has experience of active campaigning and who has the ability to meaningfully engage with everyone from external grassroots activists to internal staff and company leadership.

We are looking for someone who is active in Human Rights, Animal Rights or Environmental issues and understands the landscape of campaigning and activism in the USA and is connected to it. We are excited to have someone new on our team who can represent young activists, those driving change through diversity and inclusion and bring awareness of voices that are less heard.

Success in this role is measured by an ability to shift public awareness, drive tangible legislative change or social action on the ground, and keep our shop floors actively engaged in our campaigns.

Partnering with the Canadian - Ethical Campaign & Giving Coordinator and the US Ethical Campaigns Coordinator, you will also undertake the following RESPONSIBILITIES:

Retail Engagement & Local Grassroots Events

  • Encourage and support US retail shops with all charity pot in store inquiries, applications, and performance results.
  • Assist shops in sourcing local groups and evaluating their ethical suitability.
  • Proactively work with retail shops that have historically low engagement to increase their involvement with local product donations in Canada.
  • When required, support with the rest of the business with ethical vetting of external organizations and events.

New Giving Streams, Charity Pot, Governance & Representation

  • Review and manage all US giving proposals and prepare formal submissions for the Giving and Campaigns Circle.
  • Partner directly with internal stakeholders who suggest giving ideas to build comprehensive presentation packs, and support the co-presentation of these new ideas at executive alignment meetings.
  • Assist the wider Giving team with initial product determination, collaborating directly with inventors and innovation teams, managing global stock allocations.
  • Use the Charity Pot guidelines to vet and evaluate the ethical suitability of all incoming US giving proposals, local shop events, and community groups.

Communications, Copywriting & Storytelling

  • Champion the stories of grassroots groups internally by writing and publishing compelling content for internal employee newsletters and websites.
  • Draft clear, impactful copy for Lush.com and the global PR teams to celebrate product donations and giving milestones.
  • Provide copy and collaborate closely with the art working team to design and deploy in-store signage for newly launched Giving products.
  • Update the We Are Lush website with current copy.
  • Build comprehensive Business Communication Packs compiled from signed-off presentations and product details, and work alongside international markets to localize these packs globally.

Financial Tracking & Operational Administration

  • Manage the day-to-day administration of charity pot instore events, including updating records, resolving information bottlenecks, and clarifying corporate guidelines.
  • Work with financial teams to arrange payment requests, update financial tracking records, and resolve any payment issues.
  • Consistently compile and report comprehensive store event data and product donation metrics to other internal departments.
  • Maintain accurate administration (including applications, decision-making panels and reporting for Charity Pot funding), working with the finance team to ensure funds are paid.

Knowledge and capabilities or skills:

  • Proven experience supporting or leading community focused initiatives, volunteering schemes, or grassroots events, ideally with a background in or strong understanding of a retail environment.
  • Strong copywriting and verbal communication skills. You must be comfortable writing compelling copy across a variety of platforms from internal employee newsletters to public facing websites and global PR materials.
  • Highly organised and detail oriented. Proven experience handling budget logistics, managing payment requests, resolving financial discrepancies, and keeping databases meticulously updated.
  • A track record of coordinating multi stakeholder projects under tight deadlines. You must be comfortable working cross departmentally liaising directly with retail shop staff, inventors, creative/artworking teams, and global coordinators.
