Job description

Job Summary  

A Lube Technician plays a critical role in the maintenance and operation of machinery. These technicians are responsible for providing technical resources and field services for a plant lubrication program with primary areas of focus including equipment lubrication surveys, optimizing lubrication schedules, maintaining historical records, inventory management, procedure standardization, and equipment servicing.   

Direct Reports / Supervisory Responsibilities  

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities. 

Position Responsibilities  

  • Maintains Lubrication database including initial survey input, service history, and schedule optimization. 

  • Watches for equipment changes so that the database is kept current with the latest status. 

  • Maintains system of work assessment to support resource budgeting, backlog management, and priority determination. 

  • Completes used oil sampling, packaging, and report assessments. 

  • Supports down day and EOM worklist according to schedules. 

  • Supports mechanical maintenance technicians and area maintenance leads with risk management controls and reliability improvements relating to lubrication considerations including used oil condition assessment. 

  • Interacts with the Vibration Technician and Reliability Engineer on lube issues related to lubrication optimization and risk control measures. 

  • Maintains sufficient inventory of lubrication products, tooling, and supplies. 

  • Completes month-end inventory counting and reporting. 

  • Completes month-end backlog assessment and reporting. 

  • Works with Reliability Engineer to determine OEM specification substitutions to support product compatibility and inventory consolidation. 

  • Completes housekeeping and upkeep of lube room and used oil areas. 

  • Follows up on Lubrication worksheet comments with maintenance WR to resolve issues. 

  • Participates in Down day/Shutdown work planning by providing priority updates, procedure details and scheduling considerations for lubrication work. 

  • Coordinates with maintenance planners and area maintenance leads to optimize equipment PM’s and work practices in areas of expertise. 

  • Provides plant-wide mechanical maintenance support on an as-needed basis. 

  • Supports and promotes the Arauco Asset Reliability Process (ARP). 

  • Actively participates in operations, quality and maintenance initiatives. 

  • Maintain a clean environment for all lubrication storage areas. 

  • Keep tooling, supplies and manuals in usable condition and in proper storage. 

  • When directly overseeing contractor work, completes Contractor Work Permits and Laser Forms, lockout and permit documentation. 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities  

  • A High School Diploma or GED equivalent. 

  • Previous experience as a Lube Technician is beneficial but not always required for entry-level positions. On-the-job training is often provided. 

  • Basic knowledge of automotive systems and maintenance principles is advantageous. 

  • Physical fitness and the ability to lift and move automotive equipment and perform tasks in various weather conditions. 

  • Attention to detail and the ability to perform tasks with precision to ensure the proper maintenance of vehicles. 

  • Strong communication skills to interact with customers and team members effectively. 

  • Adaptability and a willingness to learn and follow instructions. 

  • Commitment to safety and the ability to adhere to safety protocols and guidelines. 

Physical Requirements  

  • Lube Technicians must be physically fit and capable of performing tasks that may include standing for extended periods, bending, and lifting objects. They must have the ability to climb and work at heights as needed including mobile ladders and aerial platforms.  Work with tools, Heavy pipe reach work and pipefitting, checking on equipment. 

  • Ability to work in both hot and cold weather environments as needed. 

  • Must be comfortable moving throughout large manufacturing environment with multiple buildings. 

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. as required. 

Work Environment  

  • A Lube Technician may work regular business hours, shift schedules, or be on-call to address electrical maintenance emergencies, depending on the organization's operational needs. 

  • A Lube Technician is an essential part of the automotive maintenance industry, helping to keep vehicles running smoothly and extending their lifespan. This role offers opportunities for individuals to gain experience in automotive maintenance and potentially advance to more specialized roles within the field.
