Lte Rf Optimization Engineer information

What are some common challenges faced by an LTE RF Optimization Engineer when working with live cellular networks?

LTE RF Optimization Engineers often encounter challenges such as fluctuating network performance due to environmental changes, interference from neighboring cells, and evolving user traffic patterns. Troubleshooting these issues requires strong analytical skills and expertise in using drive test tools and network optimization software. Collaboration with cross-functional teams, including network planning and field engineers, is essential to implement effective solutions and ensure optimal coverage and quality of service. Adapting to rapidly changing technology and continuous network upgrades also keeps the role dynamic and challenging.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an LTE RF Optimization Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an LTE RF Optimization Engineer, you need a solid background in wireless communications, radio frequency theory, and a relevant engineering degree. Expertise in tools like TEMS, Atoll, Actix, and proficiency with network performance analysis software and protocols such as LTE, VoLTE, and 5G are typically required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and effective communication make an engineer stand out in this role. These skills are crucial to ensure optimal network performance, minimize downtime, and deliver high-quality service to mobile users.

What are LTE RF Optimization Engineers?

LTE RF Optimization Engineers are specialized professionals who work on optimizing the radio frequency (RF) performance of LTE (Long Term Evolution) cellular networks. Their main responsibilities include analyzing network data, troubleshooting coverage or quality issues, and making parameter adjustments to improve signal quality, capacity, and user experience. They use tools and software for drive testing, data analysis, and network planning, collaborating with other engineers and teams to ensure seamless connectivity and optimal network performance. This role is critical for maintaining high-quality mobile services and efficient network operations.

Job description

Snap Inc is a technology company. We believe the camera presents the greatest opportunity to improve the way people live and communicate. Snap contributes to human progress by empowering people to express themselves, live in the moment, learn about the world, and have fun together. The Company's three core products are Snapchat, a visual messaging app that enhances your relationships with friends, family, and the world; Lens Studio, an augmented reality platform that powers AR across Snapchat and other services; and its AR glasses, Spectacles.

Specs Inc. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Snap Inc. dedicated to making computing more human. The company develops Specs, advanced eyewear that seamlessly integrates digital experiences into the physical world.

Specs feature see-through lenses that place digital objects directly into three-dimensional space, powered by Snap OS, a proprietary, context-aware operating system designed for natural interaction with your hands and voice.

Specs Inc. also provides Lens Studio, a full suite of advanced developer tools that powers immersive augmented reality experiences across Specs, Snapchat, and other services.

We're looking for a Desense Engineer to join the Spectacles team!

What you'll do:

  • Develop and implement innovative RF desense solutions (hardware and software) to ensure robust system performance

  • Collaborate with RF, antenna, electrical, mechanical, and software teams to integrate RF systems into Spectacles products and ensure compliance with performance standards

  • Conduct rigorous lab and OTA testing of RF systems, perform sensitivity and coexistence testing (LTE, 5G, WiFi, GNSS, Bluetooth, etc.), and validate performance against industry standards

  • Characterize desense caused by internal aggressors (CPU, memory, power converters, displays, etc.) and external interferers. Trace root causes using probes, shielding tests, grounding checks, and layout reviews

  • Identify system performance bottlenecks (impacts) due to antenna, RF board, assembly dependencies, multi-radio operation, etc.

  • Develop and execute coexistence test plans and generate validation reports

  • Author clear and comprehensive documentation

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong RF, antenna, EMI, EMC, and coexistence engineering fundamentals

  • Knowledge of wireless communication standards including WiFi, BT, BLE, GPS, 4G LTE, 5G, etc

  • Knowledge of board level design strategies for desense and EMI minimization, signal integrity, and isolation.

  • Experience working with systems that include high-speed digital interfaces such as MIPI CSI / DSI, PCIe, SDIO / eMMC, UFS, etc

  • Proven ability to use common RF and electrical test equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and power supplies

  • Understanding of RF PCB design, associated constraints, impedance matching, and filter tuning

  • Proficiency with RF simulation/design tools (e.g., CST Microwave Studio, Keysight ADS, XFdtd, etc.)

  • Excellent process development and documentation skills

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related technical field such as electrical engineering, computer science, or physics or equivalent years of experience

  • Ability to travel including domestic and international (up to 15%)

  • 10+ years of experience in electrical, RF, and/or computer engineering

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's or PhD in Wireless, Electromagnetics, Electrical engineering or related field

  • Knowledge of ESD principles for consumer electronics
