Job description


Position Title: Licensed Vocational Nurse/Licensed Psychiatric Technician I

Department: Residential

Reports To: Director of Nursing Services or Charge Nurse and RN Charge Nurse

POSITION SUMMARY

The LVN/LPT is primarily responsible for providing direct patient care services. The LVN I or the LPT I functions as the nursing liaison between the rest of the department staff and the patient by interacting with the patient on a daily basis and providing nursing care and services as needed and as directed by the Charge Nurse or the Director of Nursing. Nurses shall have the ability to assess, treat, and appropriately interact and care for individuals with mental health and substance use disorders.

This position requires providing service to one or more age populations including adolescents and geriatric patients in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served. This position requires full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Tarzana Treatment Centers, Inc. (TTC). It is expected that the employee demonstrates behavior consistent with the agency’s core values. The employee shall support TTC’s strategic plan and the goals and direction of the Performance Improvement Plan (PIP).

CATEGORIES OF DUTIES

1. Plans and delivers nursing assessments and interventions, related medication, and psychiatric diagnoses of the patient.

2. Administers medications per the treating provider orders, assesses effectiveness, and monitors side effects.

3. Maintains controlled substance records accurately and per protocols.

4. Provide education to patients related to their medications and illnesses.

5. Add treatment plans for active problems that patients present with, with the supervision by the LVN II or the RN.

6. Able to evaluate patient needs and assist in the implementation of treatments.

7. Understands the protocols for documentation and maintains patient medical records.

8. Performs nursing complete body assessments accurately and documents/reports any and all identified patient issues to the Charge nurse.

9. Able to complete admissions and discharges per protocols including but not limited to patient interviews, assessments, and interactions.

10.Responds to medical emergency situations.

11.Competently uses equipment necessary for the delivery of patient care including but not limited to: glucometer, AED, intermittent suction, bag/mask, oxygen, and Breathalyzer.

12.Attends trainings as required for the position.

13.Able to recognize the signs and symptoms of exacerbation of SUD withdrawal and or Behavior Health issues and be able to accurately respond and report. Or able to learn the above within the probation period to safely participate in patient care needs.

14.Models professionalism and ethical behavior at all times.

15.Reports to work timely and follows attendance guidelines.

16.Performs other job-related functions as may be assigned by the Director of Nursing or Charge Nurse.

17.Administers waived tests (urine, pregnancy, blood glucose test, breath alcohol, UA Drug Screen, Hemoglobin and Covid/Flu) and maintains annual waived testing requirements/trainings.

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE

• Graduate of an accredited LVN or LPT school or college and licensed to practice in California.

• Two (2) years recent acute care experience preferred.

• A Behavioral/Chemical Dependency Setting- required.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

• Current California LVN/LPT License

• Current CPR Card
