Job description

Job Title:  Long-Term Substitute Teacher
Job Type:  Full-time, Temporary (Duration Based on Assignment)
Reports to: Principal
Staff to manage: None
Department: Instructional
Location: On campus (Not eligible for remote work)
Starting Salary: $48,000- $57,364

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Long-Term Substitute Teacher actively instructs students, creates lesson plans, assigns and grades homework, manages students in the classroom, communicates with families and helps prepare students for standardized tests. 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Implement daily instruction based on lesson plans and curriculum for EL students.
  • Provide language development support in small groups or co-taught settings.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of student progress and language proficiency.
  • Adapt instructional strategies to meet diverse linguistic and academic needs.
  • Communicate with families, staff, and school leadership to ensure continuity.
  • Support assessments and interventions required by the EL program.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to support EL inclusion in content classes.
  • Supervise students and ensure a safe and respectful learning environment.
  • Attend professional development sessions as required.

  • Former experience in this field  (Bachelor’s Degree)
  • Valid State of Arizona “IVP” Fingerprint Clearance Card (or acquired prior to employment)
  • Knowledge of child development concepts and practices.

  • Superior knowledge of education laws and regulations.

  • Reads, interprets, applies, and explains rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

  • Preference will be given to individuals who have experience working in the target community or in a demographically-similar community and prior experience in a similar role.
  • Bilingual- Spanish (Preferred).

BACKGROUND CHECKS
  • The incumbent in this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check.
  • Must be able to obtain and hold a valid IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card at all times.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Hear and speak to make presentations and exchange information in person and on the telephone.

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and manipulate paper.

  • Kneel, bend at the waist, and reach overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally.
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling moderately heavy objects.
