Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented tax professional with experience in state income and franchise tax to support multi-state compliance for pass-through entities. This role will contribute to tax planning initiatives and collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and external advisors. The ideal candidate brings a solid foundation in federal and state tax concepts, strong analytical capabilities, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Prepare and review state income and franchise tax returns across multiple jurisdictions, including composite and pass-through entity filings.
  • Assist in calculating state taxable income and preparing apportionment schedules.
  • Research and analyze state tax matters, including nexus determinations, apportionment methodologies, filing positions, and state conformity to federal tax law.
  • Support state tax audits and inquiries by gathering documentation, drafting responses, and coordinating with internal teams and external advisors.
  • Monitor changes in state tax laws and evaluate potential impacts on filing positions and tax liabilities.
  • Assist with estimated tax payments, extensions, and other compliance requirements.
  • Maintain organized and thorough workpapers to support tax filings and positions.
  • Provide support for sales/use tax and property tax filings as needed.

Core Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience in federal and state income tax (public accounting, industry, or a combination).
  • Working knowledge of key state tax concepts, including nexus, apportionment, and combined reporting.
  • Experience preparing or reviewing multi-state income tax returns.
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel and tax compliance software.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Requirements:

  • CPA designation or CPA eligibility.
