SEH is seeking a Civil Technician to join our Omaha, Nebraska office. This is a great opportunity for an early-career professional to gain hands-on experience supporting civil design, project documentation, and field-based construction activities while learning from experienced SEH professionals.
This role is expected to be a balanced office/field opportunity, with approximately 50% of time spent supporting design, documentation, reporting, and project coordination in an office setting and approximately 50% spent in the field supporting construction observation and project oversight. Over time, the role may evolve into a hybrid schedule, with an expectation of three days in the office and two days remote, based on project needs and business requirements.
This position is currently anticipated to be part-time; however, SEH may also consider candidates interested in a full-time schedule based on qualifications, availability, and business needs.
This Opportunity:
  • Assist engineers with planning and design tasks, as well as field-based project oversight.
  • Calculate dimensions and prepare detailed dimensional design layouts for projects.
  • Interpret engineering designs and draft project information using software programs.
  • Prepare drawings, schematics, and exhibits for project reports and plans.
  • Calculate quantities and cost estimates for construction projects.
  • Monitor construction activities on transportation, civil, and municipal infrastructure projects to support compliance with approved plans and specifications.
  • Document daily field and inspection activities, including material sampling, testing, and quantity measurements.
  • Assist with preconstruction meetings, progress meetings, and project updates.
  • Maintain accurate, timely project documentation and reporting.
  • This opportunity is open to candidates residing in the following areas: Rochester, MN

Essential Qualifications:
  • Two-year/Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related field, or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with project teams, clients, and contractors.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to document field activity clearly and accurately.
  • Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions and navigate rough terrain associated with construction sites.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Willingness to travel for project meetings, client consultations, and on-site observations as needed.
  • This position requires an MVR records check verifying that you possess a valid driver's license and a driving record which meets the requirements of SEH's Driving Program.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous civil design, construction inspection, or construction field experience.
  • Experience supporting land development, municipal, civil infrastructure, transportation, or public works projects.
  • Familiarity with construction documentation, quantity tracking, project reporting, and field observation practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with AutoCAD
