What are long haul drivers?

Long haul drivers, also known as over-the-road (OTR) truck drivers, are professionals who transport goods over long distances, often crossing state or even national borders. They typically operate heavy trucks or tractor-trailers and may spend days or weeks away from home, delivering freight to various destinations. The job requires a commercial driver's license (CDL), strong time management skills, and the ability to work independently while adhering to safety and regulatory guidelines.

What is the highest paying delivery driver job?

Long haul drivers typically earn the highest wages among delivery drivers, with experienced drivers working for specialized freight companies or hauling hazardous materials often earning six-figure salaries. Long haul drivers can potentially earn $200,000 annually, especially with experience, high mileage routes, and specialized freight. However, such earnings are typically achieved through overtime, bonuses, and working in high-demand regions, and are not common for all drivers. Factors like company pay structure, hours worked, and certifications influence earning potential.

What are some common challenges faced by long haul drivers, and how do companies support their drivers in overcoming them?

Long haul drivers frequently encounter challenges such as extended periods away from home, managing fatigue, and adapting to varying road and weather conditions.
