Job description

Reports to: Director of Transportation & Fleet Department: Transportation Classification: Non-Exempt Position Characteristics: Under the direction of the Director, the Bus Driver, a full-time position is responsible for operating transport for EBRCOA senior passengers. Will have safe driving record, follow all state and national driving laws, rules and regulations. Will follow prearranged routes to destination, or use maps and GPS to navigate route.

Will also maintain bus upkeep and cleanliness. Duties and Responsibilities: To reflect in all aspects of job performance the mission of the East Baton Rouge Council on the Aging, Inc. serving the elderly in East Baton Rouge Parish, to enrich and enhance their quality of life through advocacy efforts, creative planning, and coordination and provision of needed services, and to make it possible for them to live independent lives as long as possible.

Practice safe driving habits Follow all state and national safety regulations and standards Open bus doors and assisting passengers/loading cargo/loading baggage Keep interior of bus clean of debris and clutter Load and unloading bus Complete documentation such as logs, mileage, or cargo and passenger reports Follow schedules and rerouting in timely manner when faced with traffic or congestion Participate in workshops and seminars for the purpose of increasing performance, safety and efficiency in the transportation department Attend periodic driver safety meeting for all bus drivers Participate in emergency drills relevant to transportation situations Performs other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of and orientation to the philosophy of the EBRCOA as presented in its mission/philosophy statements Safe driving practices Able to follow verbal directions, read maps, follow GPS Able to work well alone Reliable and punctual with a dedicated professionalism to job and duties Able to adapt to changing schedules or routines Excellent time management skills Able to assist passengers when needed Organized and able to follow a schedule Focus on customer service Positive attitude and professional demeanor
