What is a lollipop?

Lollipop ladies or lollipop men, often simply called 'lollipop people,' are crossing guards who help children and pedestrians safely cross the road near schools. They are named after the large, round stop signs they carry, which resemble lollipops. Their primary responsibility is to ensure traffic stops when children need to cross, improving safety and reducing the risk of accidents during busy school hours. Lollipop people are usually employed by local councils or school authorities and are easily recognized by their high-visibility clothing and distinctive stop signs.
