Summary: The Dispatch Team Lead is responsible for daily dispatch operations and providing hands-on leadership to the team. Assign routes, coordinate shipments, and ensure full compliance with all regulatory and company requirements. Manage same-day dispatch, load planning, and next-day routing while actively monitoring performance and resolving issues in real time to protect service levels and on-time delivery. Act as the first point of escalation and drive quick, effective solutions to operational challenges. Communicate proactively with drivers, customers, and internal teams, maintain accurate system records, and ensure all documentation is complete. Coach, mentor, and support team members to strengthen performance and support ongoing development.

What You'll Do

Lead & Support the Dispatch Team

  • Provide day-to-day direction and support to dispatch staff in a fast-paced environment
  • Act as the first point of escalation for operational issues and service exceptions
  • Coach and mentor team members to improve performance and decision-making
  • Help onboard and train new dispatchers

Manage Daily Dispatch Operations

  • Plan and assign daily pick-up and delivery routes to drivers and owner-operators
  • Execute same-day dispatch while supporting complex routing needs
  • Perform load planning to ensure efficient freight staging and departures
  • Prepare next-day routing, including driver assignments and delivery sequencing

Monitor & Optimize Performance

  • Track driver progress using GPS and dispatch systems
  • Adjust routes in real time to mitigate delays and meet service expectations
  • Prioritize urgent and time-sensitive shipments
  • Resolve delivery challenges through rerouting and coordination

Collaborate Across Teams

  • Work closely with warehouse teams to ensure freight readiness
  • Partner with Customer Service to meet customer-specific needs
  • Maintain strong communication with drivers and internal stakeholders

Ensure Accuracy & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate shipment records and documentation (BOLs, PODs, etc.)
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and company requirements
  • Update and verify data within the Transportation Management System (TMS)
What We're Looking For
  • 2-3+ years of dispatch or transportation operations experience (LTL, P&D, courier preferred)
  • Previous experience in a lead, senior, or informal leadership role is an asset
  • Strong knowledge of routing, load planning, and regional geography
  • Experience with TMS, GPS tracking tools, and dispatch systems
  • Solid understanding of transportation regulations and safety practices

  • Proficiency with dispatch systems, TMS platforms, and standard business applications.

Salary Range: $28.28 - $35.35 per hour

This salary range is presented in compliance with applicable pay transparency laws and reflects the range we reasonably expect to pay for this role at the time of posting. Individual compensation is determined based on relevant experience, education, skills, and alignment with internal compensation practices.
