INTRODUCTION TO AM GENERAL

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Managing freight logistics, planning and assigning delivery loads, and optimizing fleet capacity to keep supply chains running smoothly between multiple facilities
  • Work alongside procurement, manufacturing, and warehouse teams to ensure on-time production and order fulfillment
  • Ensuring all logistical operations and shipments meet strict company protocols, industry standards, and regulatory shipping requirements, including global trade regulations
  • Communicating with carriers, dispatchers, and internal teams to proactively resolve shipping delays, damages, or logistical bottlenecks
  • Participating in ongoing improvement projects, designed to increase operational efficiency, maximize fleet utilization, and reduce supply chain costs
  • Assist in vetting, selecting, and managing cost-efficient transportation providers (trucking, rail, ocean, air) for freight
  • Tracking shipment statuses, verifying freight/product data, and maintaining accurate logs using IT systems and software like MS Excel
  • Ensure all international shipments adhere to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and other strict federal defense-export guidelines
  • Coordinate with customs brokers and manage import/export documentation to prevent border delays and fines
  • Managing bills of lading and other shipping documentation, such as commercial invoices, packing lists, shipper’s letter of instruction, and proof of delivery
  • Apply and understand international commercial (INCO) terms to define liability and shipping costs
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with internal and external business units, third-party logistics partners, and regulatory agencies to align efforts and share best practices
  • Receive, approve, and code all freight invoices and submit to Accounts Payable for on-time processing

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Associate’s/bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required
  • 3-5 years’ experience in the Transportation/Logistics industry
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office Software is necessary
  • Experience with SAP is preferred
  • Experience within government-based GFM and WAWF systems is preferred but not required
  • Experience with both domestic and international shipping is preferred

PHYSICAL EFFORT

  • Sight: must be able to regularly read computer screen, reports, and various documents with detail and clarity to accomplish work tasks in a safe and efficient manner, including regular use of adequate close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus
  • Hearing: must be able to regularly hear well enough to communicate

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Physical Location: This position operates between an office and manufacturing plant environment and is often assigned to a specific shift or hours. The Employee must be able to perform job functions in an environment with varying difficult work conditions such as extreme cold, heat, inclement weather, at heights, and/or while exposed to constant/intermittent loud noises
  • Teamwork: This position will work with others to ensure efficiency in the workplace
  • Listening Skills: This position will need to understand how to use machinery properly and safely to prevent accidents and ensure all tasks are completed accurately
  • Ability to follow instructions: Managers assign tasks and responsibilities, which vary; this position should be able to follow instructions competently
  • Methodical approach: Production lines follow a set process, so this position needs a methodical approach to ensure all tasks are completed in the correct order for a smooth-running production line
  • Concentration: This position may perform the same or similar tasks repeatedly, so a strong level of concentration when carrying out these tasks is important for quality control purposes. This role is often fast paced, so being able to maintain focus at all times is important
