Summary:  The Logistics Supervisor is responsible for leading and supervising daily logistics operations, ensuring the efficient movement of customer products through domestic and international transportation networks. This role oversees a team of Logistics Coordinators, manages customer service levels, monitors operational performance, and drives continuous improvement initiatives to support customer requirements and company objectives.

The Logistics Supervisor serves as the primary escalation point for transportation, shipment, and customer service issues while ensuring compliance with company policies, customer requirements, and regulatory standards. The position requires strong leadership, analytical skills, and expertise in transportation, supply chain, and logistics operations.. Models and acts in accordance with the guiding principles and core values set by the company.

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, coach, and develop a team of Logistics Coordinators and support staff.
  • Establish performance expectations, conduct performance reviews, and provide ongoing feedback and training.
  • Monitor workload allocation and staffing requirements to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Foster a collaborative, customer-focused, and high-performance team environment.
  • Support employee engagement, succession planning, and talent development initiatives.
  • Oversee daily transportation and logistics activities, including inbound and outbound shipments.
  • Ensure timely movement of customer products and adherence to service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Monitor shipment scheduling, routing, carrier performance, and delivery execution.
  • Review transportation exceptions and implement corrective actions to minimize disruptions.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of logistics documentation and reporting.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for customer service and transportation issues.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, carriers, freight forwarders, and suppliers.
  • Lead regular operational reviews with customers to assess performance and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with customer manufacturing, planning, procurement, and supply chain teams to support operational objectives.
  • Analyze transportation and operational data to identify trends, risks, and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Develop and implement process improvements to enhance service, productivity, and efficiency.
  • Monitor and report key performance indicators (KPIs), including:
    • On-time delivery
    • Transportation costs
    • Carrier performance
    • Shipment accuracy
    • Customer satisfaction
    • Productivity metrics
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective action initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with transportation regulations, customs requirements, company policies, and customer procedures.
  • Monitor adherence to safety, security, and quality standards.
  • Support audits, investigations, and compliance reviews as required.
  • Identify operational risks and implement mitigation strategies.
    • Assist with budget planning, transportation spend management, and cost-control initiatives.
    • Support logistics strategy deployment and operational implementation.
    • Participate in customer onboarding, process transitions, and special projects.
    • Provide recommendations to management regarding resource planning and operational improvements.

 

Requirements:  

  • Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Transportation, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in logistics, transportation, supply chain, or freight operations.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Experience managing customer-focused logistics operations in manufacturing, transportation, 3PL, or supply chain environments.
  • Experience working with domestic and international transportation networks.
  • Strong knowledge of transportation, logistics, distribution, and supply chain processes.
  • Understanding of TL, LTL, intermodal, international shipping, and freight forwarding operations.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and employee development capabilities.
  • Proficiency with Transportation Management Systems (TMS), ERP systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, presentation, and customer relationship management skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong decision-making and conflict-resolution skills.

Minimum:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Post-secondary education in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Transportation, Business Administration, or a related field is an asset.
