Job Summary: The Logistics Coordinator I sources and verifies carriers to transport shipments in accordance with company requirements while ensuring cost-effectiveness. Negotiate rates, build strong relationships, track shipments, maintain accurate records, and anticipate and mitigate potential issues to ensure smooth and timely transport while adhering to all industry regulations. Provides exceptional customer service to shippers, carriers, and dispatchers.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Source and verify carriers for shipments and provide quotes and terms to secure transportation contracts while ensuring all loads are covered promptly.
- Follow company requirements for carrier verification prior to providing the carrier or dispatcher with details of shipment.
- Negotiate rates with carriers and dispatchers while maintaining company profitability for each shipment.
- Utilize a transportation management system (TMS) to track and monitor shipments to provide updates to shippers, carriers, and dispatchers on pick up and drop-offs.
- Prepare and manage all necessary shipping and transportation documentation, including rate confirmation, bills of lading, invoices, and contracts.
- Manage customer situations skillfully, responding to customer needs for service and assistance while meeting or exceeding key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Address any issues that may arise during transportation, such as delays, damages, or disputes, and work towards resolution.
- Build relationships with current customers and carriers to obtain new business opportunities and follow up on generated leads.
- Ensure that all performance of duties complies with industry regulations, legal requirements, and internal standard operating procedures.
- Collaborate with the team to cover loads and other internal departments.
- Stay informed about industry trends, market conditions, and pricing strategies to make informed decisions.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed and assigned.
