Position Summary: 
The Carrier Sales Representative is responsible for carrier procurement, negotiating, and relationship management. This role plays a critical part in enabling scalable revenue growth by ensuring we have the right carriers, at the right price and in the right lanes while maximizing utilization and service. 
 
Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

Carrier Sourcing & Strategy:
  • Build, grow and maintain a robust, scalable carrier network across modes including FTL, drayage and power-only.
  • Negotiate and manage rate agreements and service contracts with a focus on cost control and carrier performance.
Execution:
  • Oversee end-to-end load planning for brokerage freight, ensuring optimal service utilization.
  • Collaborate with account management and operations to reduce empty miles, minimize dwell and increase profitability.
  • Forecast capacity needs by lane, region and customer segment based on sales pipeline and booked revenue.
Carrier Onboarding and Vetting:
  • Ensure all carrier compliance, safety regulations, and documentation is met.
  • Identify, vet, and onboard new motor carriers to build a robust carrier network.
  • Continuously review carrier mix and freight allocation to ensure optimal profitability and customer performance.
Load Tracking:
  • Monitor shipments to provide proactive updates and ensure on time pickup and deliveries are met.
  • Resolve issues such as delays and cancellations by collaborating with account management.
Key Metrics of Success (KPIs):
  • Total load count.
  • Gross margin per order.
  • Buy vs Market.
  • On-time pickup and delivery percentage.
  • Carrier retention and performance.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in carrier sales, freight brokerage, transportation logistics, or a related transportation role.
  • Proven experience sourcing, negotiating, and managing carrier relationships across FTL, drayage, and power-only transportation modes.
  • Strong understanding of freight market dynamics, carrier capacity planning, and transportation pricing strategies.
  • Experience using Transportation Management Systems (TMS), load boards, and logistics software platforms.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations, carrier compliance requirements, safety standards, and industry best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate rates and service agreements that maximize profitability while maintaining service quality.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, with strong analytical and reporting capabilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build and maintain professional relationships.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while managing multiple priorities simultaneously.

Compensation: 
  • The base pay is competitive, depending on experience ($50,000 - $65,000)
