General Manager

A growing transportation and logistics company is seeking an experienced General Manager – Fleet & Operations to lead day-to-day operations and support the next stage of growth.

This leadership role oversees dispatch, drivers, fleet management, and operational performance while ensuring safe, efficient, and profitable delivery operations across the business.

The successful candidate will lead a team of approximately 30 employees with planned growth in the next 12 months.

This role reports directly to the CEO and plays a critical role in ensuring operational excellence, financial performance, and strong client relationships.

The Operations Manager and Office Manager report to this position which will oversee dispatch, truck drivers, routes, customer management, office management, billing and payables are maintained and executed as per policy and within budget. managing schedules, coordinating logistics and freight, and overseeing documentation to streamline processes and reduce delays. By optimizing resources and ensuring seamless coordination between clients, vendors, this position directly contributes to operational efficiency, cost management, and overall business performance and improvement

Key Responsibilities

  • Employee and Strategic Leadership

    Lead all day-to-day transportation and delivery operations including dispatch, routing, and driver performance to ensure reliable service and operational efficiency.

    Lead and mentor drivers, dispatch, and support staff. Build a strong operational culture focused on accountability, teamwork, and service excellence.

  • Operations & Fleet Management

    Responsible for managing and overseeing a team of mechanics, drivers, and support staff, providing leadership and guidance.

    Ensure consistency in best practices and processes of Delivery Tech.

    Meet regularly with direct reports to discuss operational issues or challenges and develop resolutions to overcome those challenges.

  • Financial Management

    Prepare and manage budgets, forecasts, and provide financial performance reporting to the CEO on a monthly basis.

    Track and control costs across fleet, labour, fuel, maintenance, and overheads and create efficiencies where needed.

  • Occupational Safety & Regulatory Compliance

    Demonstrate a strong commitment and adherence to Delivery Tech OHS Safety program by self and team members.

    Responsible for ensuring reporting employees are following all safety policies, protocols, and procedures, to ensure a safe working environment for all team members.

  • Customer Management & Support

    Collaborate with the Billing Clerk to ensure weekly invoices to customers are accurate as per contracts. Respond to any customer inquiries related to invoicing.

    Ensure record keeping is up to date with latest customer information, reports, inspections of vehicles, job completion reports, etc.

  • Growth & Strategy

    In collaboration with the CEO, develop and execute business plans to expand delivery capacity, customer base, and market presence into new areas of the province.

    Collaborate with the CEO to identify new commercial opportunities, partnerships, and service offerings.

What you bring to the table:

  • 6+ years of operational leadership experience

  • Experience in transportation, logistics, delivery, or fleet operations

  • Strong operational and financial management skills and experience with P&L

  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to build operational processes and efficiencies.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and drive performance

  • Knowledge of OHS legislation and PPE requirements for trucking/delivery industry

  • Knowledge of dispatch, inspections, transportation regulations and fleet operations

  • Experience with operational programs, software systems (Samsara or similar), On-time software and fleet technology

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Knowledge of the quality management system.

  • Demonstrated success in scaling operations and driving business growth

  • Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to analyze and problem-solve and make responsible decisions in accordance with prescribed policies and regulations

  • Effective project management skills; the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently and produce high quality results and complete all work in a timely manner.

  • Ability to foster and maintain trusting and dependable working relationships.

  • Ability to take initiative and work independently on individual assigned tasks, as well as ability to work in a team environment.

  • Relevant post-secondary education in supply chain management, logistics, or business

  • Experience scaling operations in a growing company

  • Class 1 Driver’s License (considered an asset)
