Logistics Associate information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a logistics associate, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Logistics Associate, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a basic understanding of supply chain processes, often supported by a high school diploma or relevant certification. Familiarity with inventory management systems, warehouse management software, and shipping/receiving tools is typically required. Effective communication, problem-solving, and teamwork are valuable soft skills in this role. These abilities ensure efficient movement of goods, accurate record-keeping, and smooth coordination within fast-paced logistics environments.

What is a logistics associate?

Logistics Associates are professionals who support the movement, distribution, and storage of goods within a company or between organizations. Their responsibilities often include tracking shipments, managing inventory, coordinating with suppliers and carriers, and ensuring that products reach their destinations on time. Logistics Associates play a key role in maintaining efficient supply chains and may also handle documentation, data entry, and communication with various departments. Attention to detail and strong organizational skills are important for success in this role.

Common Search & ComparisonLogistics Associate vs Warehouse Worker

Logistics Associates focus on coordinating shipments, managing inventory, and optimizing supply chain processes, often working in office environments. Warehouse Workers primarily handle physical tasks like loading, unloading, and stocking goods on the warehouse floor. While both roles are essential in supply chain operations, Logistics Associates typically require more coordination skills and may have additional certifications, whereas Warehouse Workers focus on manual labor tasks.

What are some common challenges faced by logistics associates, and how can they be effectively managed?

Logistics Associates often encounter challenges such as managing tight shipping deadlines, handling last-minute order changes, and ensuring accurate inventory tracking. Effective time management, attention to detail, and strong communication skills are crucial for overcoming these obstacles. Collaborating closely with warehouse staff, transportation providers, and other departments can help resolve issues quickly and maintain smooth operations. Embracing technology and staying organized can also significantly enhance efficiency and reduce errors.

Job description

S'more about the team:

As a Logistics Specialist, you will navigate comprehensive North American logistics operations, optimize the logistics network and oversee the performance and management of the inbound logistics KPIs. Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders such as the procurement teams, carriers and third-party storages are key facets of this role for a streamlined and efficient supply chain.

Lettuce share what this role will be responsible for:

  • Work with inbound Logistics Coordinators to implement inbound strategy across procurement, distribution centers, third-party storage, cross-docks and vendors. Support and address escalations, offering proactive recommendations to minimize potential risks. Become a subject matter expert in all aspects of HelloFresh's logistics & shipping network.
  • Guide and train inbound logistics coordinators while serving as the primary point for issue escalations. Proactively identify workflow bottlenecks and develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for new and critical processes.
  • Join forces with purchasing teams, category teams and distribution centers to effectively manage performance of daily delivery and shipping schedules, and week-over-week adherence to standards and KPIs.
  • Manage weekly data and reporting for inbound loads, including analysis for month-end financial reporting. Drive initiatives for KPI and reporting variance reduction, and improvement of standards.
  • Track performance of external vendors including brokers and carriers, and run monthly business reviews to drive collaborative initiatives.
  • Conduct shipping audits and provide recommendations that align with our SOPs and drive departmental KPIs.
  • Conduct comprehensive audits of freight, carrier, and vendor invoices against contracted rates to identify discrepancies, manage billing disputes, and prevent overpayment.
  • Maintain shipping lane cost data on an ongoing basis, for budgeting use across the business.
  • Optimize logistics network by identifying opportunities that maximize cost savings through load planning, carrier performance, backhaul, and trailer utilization. Develop and share best practices across the shifts and network to optimize processes.
  • Collaborate on special projects as required, including process optimization and cost savings initiatives. Work cross-functionally with our distribution center leaders and procurement leaders to drive effective transportation strategy.
  • Play the role of logistics tool "super-user" by owning, improving on, and basic troubleshooting tools and integrations used to support listed tasks. Use AI tools to identify bottlenecks and improve daily workflow efficiency.
  • Partner with North American logistics teams to share operational best practices, guide peer groups through the core processes, and support establishing a consistent workflow across the regions.
  • Remain flexible with the availability to provide operational support during weekends, after-hours emergencies, and team vacations as needed.
  • All other duties, as assigned.

Sound a-peeling? Here's what we're looking for:

  • 2-4 years proven experience in logistics, transportation, and supply chain; good understanding of manufacturing/distribution centre operations.
  • Strong analytical skills: the ability to identify problems, investigate issues or discrepancies and recommend cost-effective solutions. Proficient in Microsoft Office/Excel, WMS systems.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to read, write, communicate and interpret information accurately
  • Strong collaboration skills for working with diverse internal and external stakeholders, proven ability to build rapport and maintain positive relationships with a knack for diplomatic problem-solving and resolving logistics bottlenecks under pressure.
  • Strong customer service skills including efficiently and effectively responding to inquiries or resolving any conflicts or problems that might arise
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to implement and manage details, prioritize, time manage and multi-task with limited supervision and sometimes under time pressure
  • Live and promote HelloFresh's DNA values in this role, embodying a commitment to excellence and collaboration.

Let's cut to the cheese, this is why you'll love it here:

  • Box Discount - Amazing discounts on 1 box per week! 75% discount on weekly HelloFresh and Chefs Plate meal kits AND 50% off weekly Factor meal box.
  • Health & Wellness - Health & Dental benefits from day 1, a Health Spending Account, unlimited access to the Headspace app to meet your self-care needs, and 25% discount on GoodLife fitness memberships!
  • RRSP Matching - Competitive RRSP matching program offered
  • Vacation & PTO - Time off is also an important part of self-care! We offer generous vacation and PTO to help you create a good work-life balance.
  • Family Benefits - A parental leave top-up program for expectant parents.
