SUMMARY:
As the Operations Manager you will lead transportation planning and logistics execution activities across assigned regions, ensuring operational excellence, customer satisfaction, and efficient network performance. This position is responsible for managing teams, optimizing capacity and transportation resources, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring the successful execution of transportation services through effective leadership, collaboration, and operational oversight.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Operational Leadership
  • Lead and manage transportation planning, appointment scheduling, and execution activities for assigned regions.
  • Monitor transportation events and proactively address service disruptions, capacity constraints, equipment shortages, and operational exceptions.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for operational issues impacting service commitments.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment on customer expectations and operational execution.
  • Drive adherence to standard operating procedures, customer-specific requirements, and company policies.

Team Leadership and Development
  • Directly supervise, coach, and develop a team of Planners and Logistics Specialists.
  • Establish individual and team performance goals aligned with corporate objectives.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, coaching sessions, and career development discussions.
  • Monitor workload distribution and staffing requirements to ensure adequate operational coverage.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and customer focus.
  • Support recruiting, onboarding, and training efforts to build a high-performing operations team.

Capacity Planning and Network Optimization
  • Oversee regional capacity planning activities to maximize network utilization and operational efficiency.
  • Analyze transportation trends, capacity needs, and service performance to ensure customer requirements are met.
  • Drive initiatives that reduce empty miles, improve carrier utilization, and optimize transportation costs.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational workflows, planning processes, and service outcomes.
  • Support strategic planning initiatives and implementation of network optimization programs.

Performance Management and Continuous Improvement
  • Monitor key operational metrics including:
    • On-time pickup performance
    • On-time delivery performance
    • Capacity utilization
    • Service failures
    • Customer satisfaction
    • Productivity and efficiency metrics
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives that improve service levels, productivity, and profitability.
  • Utilize reporting tools and data analytics to identify trends and drive informed decision-making.

Financial and Administrative Responsibilities

  • Review freight billing issues and partner with Finance and Accounts Payable teams on resolution efforts.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Transportation, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of transportation, logistics, supply chain, or operations experience.
  • 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience managing customer relationships and operational performance.
  • Strong understanding of transportation planning, capacity management, dispatch operations, and carrier management.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and transportation management systems.
  • Experience utilizing operational metrics and reporting to drive business results.
