Job description

Every patient journey is different, and for many families receiving care at UVA Health, access to safe, comfortable lodging can make all the difference. This role plays a meaningful part in reducing barriers to care by helping patients and caregivers navigate lodging and support services during some of life's most challenging moments.
As a Patient Lodging and Support Services Specialist, you will serve as both a compassionate resource for patients and families and a key operational partner supporting UVA Health's lodging programs. You will help create a welcoming, service-focused experience while coordinating accommodations that allow patients to remain close to the care they need.
The Role
This position combines hospitality, customer service, operational coordination, and patient support in a unique healthcare setting. Working closely with patients, caregivers, social workers, care teams, and community partners, you will help ensure the smooth operation of UVA Health's Hospitality House and contracted lodging programs while delivering an exceptional guest experience.
In an average day, you will:
  • Welcome guests, facilitate registration and check-in/check-out processes, and prepare associated reports.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable and compassionate resource for patients and caregivers before and throughout their stay.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and respond to guest requests, questions, and concerns in a professional and timely manner.
  • Answer and route incoming calls while maintaining a warm and welcoming experience for guests.
  • Accurately collect, document, manage, and safeguard confidential guest information.
  • Process payments and support related financial transactions with accuracy and professionalism.
  • Coordinate lodging requests from patients, caregivers, social workers, and healthcare teams to ensure timely placement and communication.
  • Support daily operations of the Hospitality House and lodging programs, helping maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment.
  • Work collaboratively with housekeeping and maintenance partners to coordinate room readiness, assignments, and guest accommodations.
  • Maintain knowledge of lodging resources, policies, referral criteria, transportation options, and support services available to patients and families.

This is a part-time opportunity requiring weekend availability. The weekend shift begins Friday at 4:30 PM and ends Sunday at 4:30 PM. Team members remain onsite at the Hospitality House during the weekend, are provided accommodations in the staff apartment, and receive sleep pay during designated overnight hours.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High School Graduate or equivalent
Experience: 2+ years relevant experience
Licensure: None
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
The pay range for this role is $19.50 - $38.99 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
