Opportunity Overview

We are currently looking for two Locum Hematology/Oncology Physicians to address a critical and ongoing need in Central Iowa.

Key Details
  • Location: Waterloo, IA
  • Specialty: Hematology/Oncology
  • Start Date: As soon as possible
  • Coverage Duration: Ongoing
  • Schedule: Monday to Thursday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
  • Shifts: Approximately 16 shifts per month
  • Availability: Must be available for at least 2 weeks each month
  • Weekend Coverage: 1 weekend per month
  • Call Requirements: 1 weeknight block and 1 weekend per month (phone call only)
Practice Details
  • Focus on outpatient Hematology/Oncology
  • Minimal inpatient responsibilities at MercyOne Cedar Falls Medical Center
  • Hospitalists handle all patient admissions
  • Inpatient consultations are rare
  • Daily clinic volume ranges from 16 to 20 patients
  • Average hospital census is between 0 to 2 patients
  • Adult patient demographic (18 years and older)
  • Utilization of Epic EMR system
  • Opportunities available for teaching
Support Staff
  • Two Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) in the practice
  • No supervision of APPs required
  • Two nurses assigned per provider
  • Dedicated referral and triage nurses
  • Comprehensive support including lab services, social work, dietician, referrals, and reception staff
Services Provided
  • Chemotherapy and antineoplastic administration
  • Bone marrow biopsies
  • IVIG treatments
  • Iron infusions
  • Phlebotomy services
Qualifications
  • Board Certified in Hematology & Oncology is required
  • Consideration for Board Certified Oncology physicians with substantial Hematology/Oncology experience
  • Fellowship training in Hematology & Oncology
  • Active Iowa medical license or active IMLC
  • Clean malpractice and background history
  • NPDB self-query required at the time of presentation
  • Experienced physicians are preferred, but new graduates will also be considered
