This full-time leadership position combines strategic medical oversight with direct patient care responsibilities. The Medical Director will guide the delivery of comprehensive medical services while ensuring exceptional patient care, regulatory compliance, interdisciplinary collaboration, and continuous quality improvement.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a physician leader who enjoys influencing organizational outcomes while caring for medically and behaviorally complex patient populations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, direction, and oversight for all medical services throughout the facility.

  • Ensure high-quality healthcare delivery for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

  • Diagnose, treat, and manage patients with complex medical, psychiatric, and behavioral health needs.

  • Direct specialized medical treatments and clinical procedures.

  • Supervise physicians, Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs), Physician Assistants, psychiatrists, pharmacists, dentists, and contracted healthcare professionals.

  • Serve as the primary care physician for an assigned patient panel.

  • Provide consultation on complex clinical cases.

  • Lead interdisciplinary treatment planning and care conferences.

  • Coordinate medical care related to employee occupational injuries.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state regulations, accreditation standards, Department of Justice requirements, and organizational policies.

  • Participate in leadership committees, quality improvement initiatives, and strategic planning meetings.

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to improve patient outcomes.

  • Develop physician on-call schedules and participate in shared call coverage.

  • Support emergency preparedness, disaster response, and Continuity of Operations (COOP) activities when needed.

  • Exercise independent clinical judgment while working with minimal administrative supervision.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)

  • Active, unrestricted Texas medical license

  • Current DEA registration

  • National Provider Identifier (NPI)

  • Eligible to enroll as a Medicare Part B and Medicaid provider

  • Previous physician leadership or Medical Director experience

  • Experience leading multidisciplinary healthcare teams

  • Outstanding communication, leadership, and organizational skills

  • Ability to work independently while fostering collaboration across multiple disciplines

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience caring for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities

  • Experience treating medically complex patient populations

  • Background in behavioral health, residential care, long-term care, or state-operated healthcare facilities

  • Previous experience with quality improvement and regulatory compliance initiatives

Why Consider This Opportunity?

This assignment offers more than a traditional locum position. You'll have the opportunity to provide meaningful clinical leadership while helping shape healthcare delivery for a vulnerable patient population. If you enjoy mentoring providers, collaborating across disciplines, and driving quality patient care, this role offers both professional challenge and personal fulfillment.
