Assistant Manager - Tune Shop, Rentals and Used Gear

General Description of Position:

The Assistant Manager - Tune Shop, Rentals, and Used Gear is responsible for maintaining the day-to-day operations of their location. They help manage all staff at that location, with their primary focus being used gear, tune shop, and rental operations. The Assistant Manager is the right hand of the Location Manager and works closely with them to ensure that the location is running smoothly. This includes ensuring staff are well-trained, promotions are implemented on the floor, the store is merchandised in line with Next Adventures' merchandising strategy, Team Leads are directed, check-ins and performance reviews are participated in, and location updates are issued weekly.ย 


Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure day-to-day Tune Shop, Rentals and Used Gear operations of the location run efficiently, and smoothly.ย 
  • Be the expert in administering all Next Adventure's tune shop services and equipment offerings.ย 
  • Conduct staff check-ins, performance reviews, safety inspections and participate in interviews.ย 
  • Confidently manage the operations of any retail department and inspire Team Leads to work hard every day.ย 
  • Facilitate and find solutions to customer issues and complaints that align with Next Adventure's values and mission.ย 
  • Create effective training programs for Associates and Team Leads, and track their progress.ย 
  • Implement company sales, markdowns, and promotions.ย 
  • Manage and oversee the buying & selling process for used gear, rental equipment, and consignment agreements while adhering to the Next Adventure approach, including proficiency in designated software usage.ย 
  • Procure necessary supplies and equipment for the Tune, Rentals, and Used Gear departments.ย 
  • Implement the merchandising vision of the buyer and LM, and facilitate appropriate stock balancing when needed.ย 
  • Perform advanced Rental, POS and WMS functions. Assist in troubleshooting in-store IT issues.ย 
  • Organize and coordinate used gear & rental events.ย 
  • Balance stock levels of used gear inventory while implementing and managing quality control and administration processes.ย 
  • Effectively manage the inventory and sales of the rental and demo fleet.ย 
  • Facilitate warranty claims properly, while identifying unique solutions outside of the manufacturer's warranty.ย 
  • Issue weekly updates about location operations and keep staff informed about any changes.ย 
  • Create clear workflow plans, lead their implementation, and adjust as needed.ย 
  • Maintain minimum seasonal product knowledge requirements - Winter hard goods, Camping.ย 
  • Loss prevention and asset management.ย 
  • Scheduling & Reportingย 

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • 3 years of experience in an outdoor retail or tune and rental leadership position.ย 
  • Experience managing, leading, and training a team of 10-20 employees.ย 
  • Expert knowledge of outdoor gear and equipment, including product specifications in camping, climbing, footwear, skiing, snowboarding, and apparel.ย 
  • Experience in purchasing, reselling, or consigning used products.ย 
  • Current binding certification from all major manufacturers: Marker, Tyrolia/Head, Atomic/Salomon/Armada, and Rossi/Dynastar/Look.ย 
  • Ability to perform all functions and services in the Next Adventure service menu.ย 
  • Excellent customer service skills.ย 
  • Ability to assess damaged equipment and provide repair plans.ย 
  • Standing for long periods, with light to moderate lifting capabilities, with reasonable accommodation.ย 
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.ย 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and situational awareness.ย
